A Place For Everything, & Everything In Its Place

January 7, 2012 Leave a Comment

I always seem to have a hard time during the first week of a new year. After taking down the holiday decorations, all the sudden my house feels disgusting and I have to reorganize EVERYTHING…, pantry, fridge, linen closet, bathroom cupboard, game cupboard (new child latch a must- I’m sick of picking up every piece to every game known to man, every single day. The insanity stops now.)

….and, um, how about my sewing room?? When my cheapo fabric shelving unit literally collapsed on itself last week (was it the new Echo remnant?? or those repro FQs?), a sewing room reorganization moved to the top of the list…big time.

I would show you a pic of the actual collapsed unit, but I’m too embarrassed. The best I can offer is a snapshot of the aftermath…my entire stash, homeless. This couldn’t have come at a better time really- need to get things shined up and make room for the fat stack of FMF that’s on it’s way.

So what do I do? Invest in a quality, sturdy piece of organizational furniture that will last me a lifetime? Yeah right. I hit the thrift store and found another crappy piece of “furniture” & and an old wall shelf to pick up where sad old Ikea piece left off. It’s no vintage pie safe, but hey, for $7 I can’t complain.

My fabric seems happy here.

Pre-cuts in view, either to inspire me or make me feel guilty for having so many.

Once the sewing room situation was under control, I had to move on to craft supplies, of the youthful kind that is. The girls received so many fabulous arts & crafts-related gifts for Christmas this year, that I had to come up with a game plan for them, quick-like.

Here’s what I came up with- bright, fun laminated pockets to hang on the inside of our pantry door.

Isn’t it fun? I’m kicking myself that I didn’t decide to make one of these a year ago!

So excited to be posting a tutorial on this door organizer later this month over on Sew Lux’s blog. I’ll keep you posted!

Can’t forget to announce the giveaway winner!
