Crazy Days & Giveaways

June 15, 2013 27 Comments

I’m here, friends, I’m here!  Can’t believe it’s mid-June, and all I’ve had the chance to share about in the past 2 weeks was my sad tale of the lost camera card. :(  Aw, poo.  No, I haven’t found it yet, but thanks to all of your sweet words, I was able to put my big girl panties on that day, and move on.  No more searching.  No more anxiety.  God will bring it to me when the timing is right.  I put a fresh card in my camera and I’m not going to waste one more minute grieving.  Taking new pics.

So what the heck have we been up to for the past 2 weeks?  More like what haven’t we been up to.  We’ve un-popcorned and painted the entire house, removed loads of ugly carpet, and now we’re in the home stretch of installing over 2000 sf of handscraped solid hardwood floors.  Yes, us….as in me and Russ.  Russ and I, with our own callused little hands, aided by crew of pajama-clad assistants at our heels, gathering saw dust fairy dust  to offer to the rollie pollie and drippy popsicle gods.  Maybe we’re crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The past couple of days we’ve been tackling the front living room…

Here’s the shot I took at our first showing.  Hard to see it close-up, but trust me, it’s full-on purple walls, thick popcorn ceilings, plush 1970s carpet.  Lovely.

Front Room Before

Here it is the day before yesterday.  We’d scraped, refinished, and painted the ceiling, painted the purple walls grey, and the white railing black.  Then dumped in a truckload of junk…aka, room where you put everything that you don’t know where else to put.

Front Room Before

And here it is today.  Aaaaaaalmost there.  Tweeking those lamps, adding some pretty wall art, flowy curtains, and some more table decor, and we’re in business.

Front Room After

So, let’s talk about what YOU’VE been up to!  Hopefully lots of ice cream eating, barefoot in the grass walking, and sewing of course!  Looks like a lot of you have been having fun with this month’s Sugar Block- a happy little homage to the block party.

June Block: Home Sweet Home

June Block: Home Sweet Home

We’re halfway through our 2013 Sugar Blocks, and I hope you’re enjoying it!  I sure am.  What a blast to see everyone’s unique spin on it each month.  Don’tcha just love samplers?  They’re just so pretty.  Like stained glass kaleidoscopes, puzzles bursting with lovely angles and colors.  These solids are reeeally starting to grow on me!

SO, the giveaway, courtesy of the fabulous folks over at Andover Fabrics.  2 delicious bundles up for grabs this month- Poppy Modern by Jane Dixon, and Facets by Lonni Rossi.  Thanks Andover!

Andover Giveaway Bundles

SO, here’s the dealio.  I want to spice things up and have a little linky party- a parade of blocks, if you will, right here on the blog.  So to enter for a chance to win one of the bundles, just use your Flickr or blog url to link an image of your June block.  The link-up will be open through June 30th at midnight.  I’ll choose one block at random to win a bundle, and the other bundle will go to the quilter with the most “likes” on their block in the link-up.  So send your friends over to “like” your block!  Good luck and have fun!!!

Amazing! I am loving your table and oversized ottoman (I can see that it might make a great launching pad/trampoline for some indoor play!!).

you can link it right to this page. Open up your flickr account then open the photo. Copy the URL in the box at the top of the page by highlighting and pushing CTRL C on your keyboard. Now, go back to the page to enter and click in the line where the url goes and push CRTL V on your keyboard. After filling in the rest, you are done and your photo will be entered.

Sally Jo is exactly right. For those of you without a blog, your Flickr photo stream can serve as your page- just go to the page where your block is posted on Flickr, copy the address line at the top of the page (ie the URL), and paste it in where the linky gallery asks for URL / webpage.

OOPS! I failed to read again and put up May’s block. Just ignore it. I did put June’s up and all is well on the home front again. Perhaps Amy can delete my boo boo and send me instructions on how to READ everything. Doing this early in the morning in the dark probably didn’t help. Chalk it up to age.

Kinda hard to hang on to the woe of a lost memory card when you are surrounded by those beautiful faces ready to make new memories.

Looks like it won’t be long until you and your family are completely settled in. Love that you are enjoying all this with you children instead of shipping them off to babysitters. Thank you Amy for the giveaway and keeping up with everything. Love your attitude about your lost card.

You sure know how to make a house a home. It’s absolutely lovely!

I have a confession…I’m 3 months behind in my blocks! Three months! Ugh. I’m not a huge fan of the paper piecing so I groaned when April’s came out and said, “I’ll get to it”. I had to finish a period 1860’s dress by April 22 to wear in a parade for Fiesta San Antonio. Then May’s block came out and thought, “Oh an easy one! I can knock that out in a day so I’ll get to it.” Then I had the Shotgun Wedding…Dress come up (a corset back conversion on my blog), I’ve had veggies out my ears because we’ve had so much rain so I come home from work and spend hours blanching, dicing, peeling, canning, making 16 quarts of salsa, etc. Holy cow it’s mid June and well, I’m 3 months behind. My “Get to it” got up and went! I have over $100 worth of gorgeous quilt fabric sitting in a neat little tub all labeled nice at how it’s reserved for the Sugar Block club, with 3 months of patterns sticking up out of it. I feel pitiful for how overwhelmed I feel, but then I see how crazy busy you are and I roll my eyes at myself. Maybe when you send out July’s block, I’ll get to it. ;)

My back hurt just looking at the before photo! Oh and that dining room table of yours absolutely rocks.

Gorgeous floors, cutie-ful kiddies, and lovely blocks–lots of work but amazing results. Has anyone else noticed that this month’s block, when seen in the thumbnails, looks like four fat pencils (or crayons) poised to write on the center square? What a memorable quilt this could make for a classroom or family project featuring student writing or art.

The twins are getting big and I’m sure the girls are having fun with them now. Soon (if not already) they will be getting into things the girls leave on the floor. The house is looking good and looks like you have lots of room. Wonderful giveaway and I’ve entered my June blk. My grandson was visiting me this time and he actually picked out the colors and when I finished it and showed him he said it’s beautiful. :) Thanks for the chance to win a wonderful fabric bundle giveaway!

      Hi Nancy-
Do you have your block photos uploaded to Flickr? For this link-up, you need to have your photo posted to some type of webpage already, but it doesn’t need to be a blog. I think most folks are using Flickr since that’s where we are sharing all of our block photos to the group anyway, but I believe you could also use Photobucket, Snapfish, or any other photo-sharing website. When you get the photo posted somewhere, copy and paste the address line (url) to use here. Hope this helps.

Thanks Amy, I guess I didn’t have my thinking cap on when I was trying to get my pic posted. As soon as you emailed me back, it all clicked. I forgot to upload to Flickr first, DUH! I feel so stupid. Ok, so my June block is titled, “Black & White” it’s #47 here. Thanks again for your help, and thankyou Andover for giving us a chance to win some great fabric! Good Luck everyone
