It’s over a week into December and we’ve finally got a tree up, decorations about, and a funny little elf named Ellsworth who’s watching our every move (and chuckling that we just spent $30 at Target for a children’s book & a small stuffed doll).
But he’s so cute!!!
Do you know about The Elf on the Shelf?? It’s a sweet story about a magical elf who Santa sends to your house to watch your children and report back each night as to whether they were naughty or nice…and it comes with a cute little vintage-looking elf that your child names, and each morning he appears, perched in a different spot in your house. Apparently there’s a movie…an entire movement really, with elves of every skin tone & eye color, books, DVDs…even a little skirt sold separately if you want a girlie elf…I think I’m the last to discover this cute new tradition!
Last night Russell turned on some Bing Crosby Christmas, started a fire, handed me a cup of eggnog, and said, “Let’s decorate!” Who are you and what have you done with my husband?? Wow. I told him I thought he was finally getting into the Christmas spirit from last year. And I love it!
The girls and I made snowflake garlands & a gingerbread house. Since this photo was taken 24 hrs ago, every single gumball from that roof has been snatched, chewed, and stuck somewhere as a little juicy gift.
Doilies…they always have a place in my house. Russell doesn’t get it. I say get on the doilie train or get out.
And a new way to display holiday cards this year! Snagged this idea from my darling neighbor Ginny of Yonder Furniture, who has her children’s art work displayed this way. Shhhhh…don’t tell my husband…I attached the ribbon to the top and bottom edges of the pantry door with a staple gun! He’ll never know because I’m never taking them down!!
Straight pins are the perfect way to attach the cards!
Beads, beads, and more beads! I can’t get enough beads this time of year!
Amidst all of this holiday cheer, I’m feverishly trying to finish all of my quilty committments! EEK! My Secret Santa Twitter Swap gift needs to go out in tomorrow’s mail, and we have our Fancy Tiger SS Swap this weekend as well. The fun thing about that one is we can only use materials from our stash- nothing new. Yay for making dents in my stash!
But what’s REALLY been eating up all of my time this month?!? Why am I so behind on getting my life into full-swing Christmas mode?? A very exciting quilty project is going down, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Deadlines are looming, and forget visions of sugar plums- it’s blocks & fabric that are dancing through my head these days! More on that soon…like tomorrow maybe :)
Well, if you insist, here’s a little teaser!
XO
