I Wrote A Book…Again!

February 18, 2016 31 Comments

I know what you’re thinking…Is this lady nuts or what?!  It’s a fact.  I am totally nuts.  Two books, back to back, on top of homeschooling 4 kiddos and goodness knows what else…What can I say?  I guess it doesn’t really seem crazy when you feel like the luckiest woman in the world.  I’m ridiculously thrilled to be over the hump (or mountain, really) that has been the past year, and can’t believe it’s finally time to share it with you.  A surreal moment, to soak in the sweet, sweet finish.

Quilt blocks.  I feel like they’ve played such a huge role in my quilting journey.  From the whirlwind of awesome that was the 2012 Craftsy BOM, garnering over a quarter of a million block-loving quilters from around the world, to getting to know many of your better over the past few years in the Sugar Block Club here on my blog…there’s just something about blocks that keeps me coming back for more.  So many possibilities, and they’re just so approachable.  A mini masterpiece, easily conquered in an afternoon.  After reading the scores of incredible comments from so many of you in last month’s giveaway post about what you love most about blocks…well, I feel like we are kindred spirits.

Intro Image for Blog

So that’s the why behind this book.  Essentially, I set out to write the ultimate block book for quilters of all skill levels.  50 blocks (and I love every single one of them)– and not just the patterns, but everything you need to know to play to your heart’s content cooking up your own block designs using a wide array of versatile patchwork units in 5 different sizes- literally, infinite possibilities.

There are 7 sampler layouts, and I’m just dying at not being able to show them to you yet, but believe me- they are fun and new!  My favorite quilts to date!  I’m using one of them for my 12 Sugar Blocks this year (check out my January SBC post for yardage requirements), but you might even want to wait until the book comes out this summer to decide, in case you want to use one of the other layouts for your Sugar Block quilt.  The samplers in the book can hold as few as 6, and as many as 16 blocks, so there are a lot of options for play- make 2 quilts from your BOM blocks, or use up blocks from past years in one big quilt!

OH!  I almost forgot to mention!  It’s HARDBACK!!!  And the award for the best frosting on the cake goes to…seriously though…192 thick glossy pages of hardback, image wrapped goodness?  Oh my heart.  I’ve died and gone to quilt book heaven.

Well, I could go on but it’s downright painful not to be able to post interior photos yet.  Luckily there’s not too long to wait!  The Quilt Block Cookbook is available for pre-order on Amazon now, and will be coming to a bookshop or quilt store near you the first week of July!  I’m counting the sweet minutes!  Thanks for stopping by, dear friends!

XO

I am so happy for you! That is so cool! I first started to quilt with your 2012 Craftsy BOM class (loved it BTW) and your new book looks like it will continue the happy buzz. Very, very exciting! Good job, Amy!

What a wonderful idea for a quilt book and hardcover is golden!!! It’s going to be ordered later today. You amaze me so much. I am sure that writing the book was a ton of work, but what fun to put your ideas together and share them with an even wider audience. I’m doing your sugar blocks and confess to having started with stash on hand…and then last night I bit my lip and ordered some special (discounted) fabrics for this project. I will try to use stash with your new book. Oh, who am I kidding…I will inevitably want some new stuff!!! Thanks for inspiring me from your craftsy class and beyond…..XOXO

My copy arrived yesterday and it’s wonderful! As I turn the pages to each block my mind starts to imagine what I might do with my leftover fabrics from my other quilts (not that I have much…I’ve only made 4 quilts so far and I ‘m working on my 5th). It’s probably a bad sign that I’m thinking about making another quilt before I’m anywhere near completing the one I’m working on now! 😉 Congratulations on a great book!
