Have you ever heard the saying, “Bite off more than you can chew…THEN CHEW IT!”? I heard it for the first time today, and I instantly thought- that’s me! Chewing like crazy! Admittedly, I’m up to my eyeballs at the moment in homeschooling, sewing projects, writing projects, church stuff, kids’ activities, and family events, not to mention my 7th year straight as president of the “Will You Please Stop Wrecking My House” Society…and I know I’ve probably bitten off more than I can chew, but darn it if I’m not going to just chew like a mad woman and keep plugging away. It’s day by day mode this month…hectic and intense, but oh how exciting life is. The kids won’t be little forever, and there’s just something about crazy hard work that is so full of promise and satisfaction.
Unfortunately I can’t share with you about the crazy fun projects yet (still chewing!), but I can share about what my littles have been up to, and let’s be real- they’re much more entertaining than I am, even with one hand tied behind their backs (actually, let’s make that 2 hands tied behind their backs…perfect…now don’t move, while Mommy goes to sneak a bowl of ice cream and catch up on Netflix). Seriously though, my 2 sweet girls have been keeping busy with their own sewing adventures, and it’s such a delight to finally see them both taking such a strong interest. I guess you could say it’s the year of learning to quilt.
SO- quilts, quilts quilts. We’re PSYCHED about making our own quilts. First up- doll quilt for a best friend recently, using her favorites from the latest Heather Ross collection, Tiger Lily.
She sat down and pounded this out without so much as a word from me…I think she stunned herself, as much as she did me!
And another fun beginner project with our girls’ club this week- 9 patch tic-tac-toe boards. What a fun idea for a simple mini for kiddos? They did an awesome job!
But what’s most fun? Undoubtedly, video tutorials from my 2nd grader. Yes, she’s 7, and somehow my recent filming for Craftsy has made a MAJOR impression. So much so, that she seems to be in constant tutorial-filming mode! Anytime I try to catch a moment on video…say, her explaining her science project or opening a birthday gift…the instant that red light goes on she’s like “HELLO THERE, I’m Nora, and welcome to another Craftsy tutorial!” It’s too cute.
So here is my eldest’s first sewing tutorial video- “Quilting Humps”…completely unplanned and off the cuff, filmed in the euphoria of having completed a mini-sized doll quilt for the beloved “Pandy”. It’s 6 minutes, I know, but I just couldn’t bear to cut her off. :)
