My Cup Runneth Over

I’ll be honest- I’ve had such a hard time getting myself to sit down and blog this month, despite so much going on (or perhaps because of?).  Somehow, with spring bursting into it’s full glory, it’s like the world has awaken from slumber- it’s magic to feel the grass between my toes again and I think I just needed a bit of a web break this month to let it all soak in.  Aaaaaahhhhh.  Some days, or weeks, it’s all I can do just to stay sane and keep everyone reasonably fed and clothed.  Sometimes “I need to blog” might as well be “I need a European vacation”….’taint gonna happen.  And I think that’s ok.  I’ve decided this year not to beat myself up about those weeks, and not to ever let my blogging feel like an obligation, which is an easy slope to slip down.  Sometimes just taking a break, and enjoying life, enjoying spring, without feeling the need to share about every single thing I’m sewing and cooking and thinking ALL the time is A-OK.  Keeping it real. :)

I also must confess that this season is destined to be one of my most challenging here on the blog.  I’m quilting quilting quilting my little head off…the house is a flurry of thread and lint right now…and yet I can’t share a single photo with you.  It’s the oddest predicament and I don’t quite know what to make of it, other than to ask you to bear with me.  I’ve not given up on quilting, I promise.  There will be wondrous fabric eye candy at some point in the not so horribly distant future.  The fruits of my secret sewing labor will not be lost.  And I’m sure you can guess why, as I keep catching myself not so subtly hinting to you, so let’s just be out with it.  I’m writing a book- my first book.  Yes, it’s happening.  And all I can say is I am so incredibly excited.  There are no words.  The dream I’ve dreamed for as long as I can remember is actually coming to fruition, and I’m hanging on for dear life as I work work work as hard as I can, as fast as I can, to make it happen and still keep my household in tact.  I do still have some special quilting posts planned for the coming months, but I appreciate your understanding as my blog is temporarily void of pretty patchwork. :)

So what can I share today?  Special moments.  This month has been chalk full of them, so I’ll share some favorite snippets of what my posse has been up to in recent weeks…

My Cup Runneth Over 01

You might have seen on Instagram that we got a puppy a couple of weeks ago.  Our first family dog- Ranger.  And although training our little pup has it’s moments, it’s still be totally delightful.  The kids are entranced, and my husband is in heaven.  He actually raised Huskies as a boy, and I, on the other hand, have never had a dog.  So needless to say, this is interesting.  I’m feeling my comfort zone being stretched, and I really don’t think that’s a bad thing at all.  Learning to let go of a slipper here and there is a small price to pay for the experience of falling in love with a dog for the very first time.

Yes, spring is here and our yard is just about on the verge of glory.  The lilacs are peeking out, the trees are flowering.  It’s my favorite time of the year.

Last week it snowed and now all of the sudden we are barefoot in the grass, and having a ball.

Warm days make for warm evenings and that can only mean one thing: S’mores.  Nothing rings in great weather like pulling the fire pit out of hiding and toasting up a bit of magic.

My Cup Runneth Over 10And Easter, yes, ah, a lovely Easter.  We hosted family at our house and in honor of the weather, decided to lunch on the patio this year- a first for us.  I don’t know if it scored any points with our neighbors, but I think this is definitely the start of a yearly tradition…and perhaps a deck makeover.

And that’s our April!  Thanks for stopping by to visit.  It’s been so long, I know.  I’ve missed you!  Hopefully your month is in full bloom as well!

  1. I can’t wait to see the new book in print, I’ll put it on my Christmas list! In the meantime, I am in the middle of the Granny square twisted Irish chain which I am finding quite a challenge, thank you! It doesn’t help that I now have baby chicks living in my sewing room which are proving to be something of a distraction!
I soooo love your puppy! We have a husky/collie cross who is just the best dog in the world! Good luck!

  2. Looks like a lovely April to me. You don’t always need to share quilty things here. I love seeing your sweet family and the new puppy is so cute. Such pretty eyes. The best picture is the joy on your husband’s face while hugging that pup. Melted my heart. Enjoy your spring!
