Got up early this morning to attack a pile of swap blocks that’s been sitting on my sewing table for weeks now, begging to be trimmed, pressed, and photographed- some will go into quilts of mine, and others need to hop into a bubble mailer and go to swap partners.
First up- a spiderweb block for a modern guild swap partner, Andrea. She requested it in black, white, and red, via OhFransson’s tutorial. I love how it turned out, even though the inner points of the star don’t match up perfectly…but I’m concerned about the narrow star shape. Hm. Looks like the 2″ marks from the center of the triangles was a better fit for the smaller blocks in the tutorial…however, the only listed adjustments were for making a larger block (12.5″), was to start with a square that’s 1.25″ larger than your finished size. We shall see. If this one looks totally off from what she was expecting, I’ll just have to make her another and use this for a red hot pillow!!!!
Next in line, a spiderweb for me! Made this a couple monthes back for my skill builder sampler quilt, using A La Mode’s tutorial. See what I meant about the skinny vs. fat star? I think this one’s how it’s supposed to look… This one has you making marks 6″ from the outside corner, resulting in a totally different angle.
Eek, the more I look at the difference, the more I’m afraid Andrea’s won’t do. I might be in some level of spiderweb detention right now. I’ll keep you posted.
Here’s a cute one I just got from Andrea, for my Wonky 5-Sided Log Cabin. I’m having people use Aneela Hoey’s tutorial. Isn’t that just the friendliest froggy you’ve ever seen? I wanna give him a kiss.
Last month (or was it the month before? I can’t keep track) I got this yummy orange block from another swap partner. Dontcha just love those girlies with balloons? They make me happy.
Oooh, and then there’s this red one- yes, I think this one was last month. RED HOT! It’s on fire! I love her choice of mostly saturated reds, and cute little bike in the center.
Oooh, and I can’t forget this Circle of Geese I made awhile back- another one in my skill builder sampler quilt. YUMMY! This block is fun to make…thanks to an awesome template by Beth of Piece By Number.
If you like this block, you might just wanna hang around til the very end of our Craftsy BOM series…yes, we’ve been in touch with Miss Beth, and there might maybe sorta definitely will be a block preeeetty much exactly like this (ok, fine, this exact block) in October. Stay tuned!
PS- (and I only add this part to make you jealous)- it’s 65 degrees in Denver right now, and this morning, as I snapped these pix, our fam bummed around in the backyard as if it were June!
Hope you’re wrapping up a delightful weekend with your squeeze’s! Time to start another fabulous, blessed week.
