Ahhh, hello world! I’m back! Sounds like you all had a lovely intro to my squeeze last week. Mmm, yes. Ain’t he a catch? I’m a lucky girl. Should I invite Russ back for a guest post next month? I’m all in favor of the “Living with a Quilter Blogger Survival Support Group”…as long as they don’t drink too much or wake the kids.
Speaking of the kids- they had a blast posing for some pre-bedtime snaps with my brand new Canon Rebel DSLR. Loooooooove. Now for some daylight.
So where in the world have I been??? A post here, a post there, but no “get down n’ dirty, dig through the stash, up all night with a latte & a fat stack of HST’s” kinda nights to share about. :( Sure, I’ve been busy with the kids, busy sifting through a sea of used minivans, busy writing, editing, and proofing block patterns for the last months of the Craftsy BOM series, but…
…Perhaps this is one of those “what does it all mean” phases (if you’re half the John Cusack fan I am, you know what that’s from). A mid-quilt crisis? A mojo misplacement?
If there’s anything I’ve learned this month, it’s that you MUST allow yourself to be human…you must allow yourself to fall short of your own expectations (they are usually the toughest to meet). You won’t think up or stitch earth-shattering quilts or bags or clothes every day. Some days you won’t even get your dishwasher loaded or take the trash to the curb on time. Some days your hubby will have to step in because your blog is looking so sad. Crying helps. Screaming and throwing things may feel theraputic but what you need is glass of red wine, a hot bath, and a really strong dose of IT’S OK!
Anybody else been here with me? Step #1- I’m taking the entire day tomorrow (in Mommy language that means the entire 2 hours that my kids are hopefully napping) to sew something that I want to sew! No deadlines, no orders, no requirements. Just me and my fabric.
Oooh, what will it be, what will it be??
Perhaps this quilt I was up late the other night sketching in EQ7. I’ve had it in mind for quite awhile for my dear friend’s soon-to-come, and already the coolest kid on the block, baby “Captain”. Yes, I’m all about black/gray/white & chartreuse these days. If my kitchen were a quilt, this would be it.
Thinking of writing the pattern for it and calling it “Metro Zig” or maybe “Captain Zig.” We’ll see. I have all the neutrals but will need to pick up some Kona Cactus for the chartreuse.
SPEAKING OF KONA….I called Joann’s today to see if they had this color (I didn’t realize until just recently that they even carry Konas!), and found out, to my horror, that they’re asking $8.95/yard in my area!!! I’m…uh…wha??? I assumed it would be temptingly cheaper than the respectable $5.95/yd Kona at my local trendy fabric shop, but I assumed wrong. As if I needed another reason not to visit Joann’s…they’ve gone and thrown me another.
But alas, I digress.
Yummy no-pressure quilting tomorrow. Combined with some Swedish Pancakes, a big-time tickle fest, oh, and the Craftsy Meetup Party!!!! I almost forgot about the Craftsy Meetup Party! I’m so looking forward to it! I’ll keep ya posted.
XO
