I so enjoyed pulling out the Christmas ornaments to decorate the tree this week! I always seem to forget about the little treasures we pack away each January, so there are lots of ooooohs and aaaaahhhs when we unwrap them one by one, and find perfect little spots for them on the tree.
This sweet little turtle is the ornament I made for our guild ornament swap this month, and I must admit- I had a hard time giving it away! I very well may stitch another to live with us. This is the “Henrietta” pin cushion pattern by Heather Bailey, and thought it would make a lovely ornament!
Here’s the ornament I got from the swap, made by the super-sweet Audrey Pawdrey! Isn’t it just adorable?! That fabric on the roof is so perfect- looks just like roof tiles. And the little character in the window! So so sweet! Wouldn’t this concept be fun in larger form as a throw pillow? I’d love to try that.
Here’s another one of my absolute favorites- a cute, quirky bird made a couple of Christmas’ ago by a dear friend, Ginny. No pattern- just some improv stitching, and serging around the outer edge. I love the intentional “imperfections,” if you will- they really give it a modern, cool vibe. I’d love to try to incorporate more of this type of casual “crazy” stitching, rather than always going for the perfect top-stitching, etc…so much more artistic!
Also excited to use my Hungarian Valentine heart as an ornament this year! I’ve had it hanging on a cabinet knob in the kitchen since February, and was delighted to add it to the tree. I have a bunch of hard copies left of this pattern left over from an event, that I’d be happy to mail out, if anyone wants one- just send me a self-addressed stamped envelope. Email me for the mailing address.
Off to do some Christmas and birthday shopping today, and perhaps a new fabric wreath tutorial, which I’m hoping to share with you in the coming week!
XO
Ive made all sorts of small ideas from stuffed toys to pillows, just add a string of some kind and hang them anywhere. I was studying you latest quilt “quilting” and now I see what my 60 degree triangle will wash like. I needed to view quilting techniques to see shrinkage. I am contemplating backing techniques and wonder how you did the triange thingy? just a strip sew in? I will get out my digital and power it up and send an email of it yet undone
I would love the heart ornament pattern! I am definitely stitching up a Henrietta for our tree.

I totally agree with you on the casual ‘crazy’ stitching…..so much more ‘arty’……I just can’t bring myself to deliberately create imperfections though. Sigh. Looking forward to seeing a fabric wreath tutorial :o)
Love your new blog design! I am excited for the Sugar Block Club to begin! Also love you Henrietta!!
These are just beautiful and so great that they are handmade. You are amazing
Very nice ornaments. Specially the Henrietta, you should definitely sew one for yourself.
I. LOVE. That. Turtle. In fact, let’s be honest, I WANT that turtle!!! So cute! You do such amazing work!
Love your different decorations, but especially the turtle, I think you need to make another :oD
Oh, I’ve admired Henrietta for years, but never got the pattern. How clever to use it as an ornament!
Gorgeous Amy!
I’ve never really thought to make ornaments for the tree – yours are so beautiful – you’ve inspired me!
