Hello, world! Block time again!
I hope you’ve had a stellar week. We’ve been busy over here purging and reorganizing our basement (I hate to put Christmas decor back into a mess!), flipping some pancakes of course, and, AH, getting a little cast for a little broken arm! Here’s to more calcium and hard-learned-lessons about jumping off the couch!
I hope your January is off to a great start! Last week was our first dive into the Cookbook Quilt Along and I’m seeing some absolutely gorgeous versions of last weeks First Kiss block on Instagram (and also some super pretty Cherry On Top blocks from those who are stitching ahead!)!! Keep on posting, everyone, and tag #cookbookquiltalong so we can all see your beautiful work!
Let’s dive into this week’s block!
This one’s really fun to make, and there are lots of possibilities for design. I saw cherries when I made mine (actually a cherry in the middle!), so that inspired the name, but I also see a beautiful flower, or some striking fussy cutting. Lots of possibility in these snowball-style units. I had fun experimenting with a striped fabric in the corner units to create a “frame” for my block, but there are lots of other options! I can’t wait to see what you guys do with it!
And remember- you can always customize the block by flipping or even substituting units for a new look, which is where the cutting chart in the back comes in SO handy…pick any unit you see in the book and make it in the 3X3 size to swap that unit for any of the units in this block. I played around with it a bit and here are some fun options I came up with in my new Meriwether prints.
I also did a little playing around with some 2 block combinations. Here is the Cherry On Top block paired with Block 23, Morning Paper. I think this would make a really sweet, whimsical child’s quilt! So many possibilities. What do you think it would pair well with?
Well, that’s this week’s block! Happy stitching, and I’ll seen you next Monday!
XO
Amy
For some reason I am not receiving the emails. I am on the mailing list. Not sure why. I just LOVE these blocks.
I’m still not getting the emails when you post a new block. I’ve checked and confirmed it’s not in my junk or trash. Can you please add me to the weekly email?
Thanks, I just got it!
Please disregard my prior comment. I did get this weeks email! I’m so sorry for the confusion. I’m really enjoying these blocks!! Many thanks.
I just got the book and wow! After more than fifteen years quilting, I’m so excited by your new and interesting block designs as well as all the wondeful colour and the oh-so-useful layout of the book. I participated in your Sugar Block Club this past year and have 12 blocks to have fun with putting in to a quilt layout. I think I better get sewing on some new blocks! (Do you have a Cookbook quilt along badge for blogs?)
How long did it take for your book to come?
Love the way these blocks are turning out and I hope your little man feels better. When my son was about 7 he jumped off his bike and hit my car! It was parked! He broke a bone in his hand, I will never forget the look on his face, and I think I was more scared than he was, when the pain hit it was all I could do to keep calm and get him to the hospital. He’s 19 now and just started college!!!!
Cherry on Top. Complete. So cute!
Oh dear, boys and jumping off he couches, seems to be a right of passage for them…….I feel for you Amy. When my kids had casts, they were just not themselves. They had trouble sleeping, were distracted at school and in general, were just a little OFF. I can’t quite describe it, thankful, it resolved as soon as the cast was removed. Gotta love those boys!
Omgosh Amy, I just bought your book today so excited to get started. I absolutely love your quilting been following you after finding you on craftsy 2012 quilt along, where I first started ever quilting, your kids are growing ever so fast they are adorable!!
Love that. I started quilting in the same way.
Looking for a paper piece template for the corner blocks of the cherry on top.
I do not have the book and would love to make some of these blocks. I love the cherry on top. Are we able to find and print the templates without purchasing the book?
