Aaahhhh…three day holiday weekend Monday’s are the BEST…especially when there’s a new quilt block to make!
I LOVE this week’s block, because there are so many possibilities for fabric selection, and I think the center makes an absolute perfect spot to showcase a fussy cut motif. In the lemony yellow version above I used a print I’ve been saving from Sandi Henderson’s 2009 collection, Meadowsweet…I fell in love with it then, and have been hoarding it for seven years! Ah! Perfect center to this block!
And here’s a juicy cool version in Meriwether. It’s less of a lemon whip and perhaps more of a blue raspberry! I love them both.
Friends, if you’re just joining in, you’ll need to pick up a copy of The Quilt Block Cookbook to access the patterns. You can purchase one from your favorite book-seller or snag a limited-quantity signed copy from my shop.
There are some quick tips for attaching the petals on page 161 of the book, but if it’s been awhile since you’ve done these (or maybe this is your first time with machine applique!), I think you’ll find this video helpful. It’s for a block we did last year, but the process for attaching and finishing the edge of the petals is exactly the same.
And doesn’t it make the sweetest baby quilt? Here’s a mock up of nine of these blocks, with a simple 2” finished sashing (so cut at 2 1/2” wide). This would come together SO quickly if you chain pieced your units.
Well, that’s this week’s block! I hope you love it as much as I do. Happy stitching, and don’t forget to post your block on Instagram with the tag #cookbookquiltalong. See you next Monday!

superbe merci
I love love love the full quilt design!
I love your new fabric line!! Where will it be available and when?
I had some trouble with this block….not sure what went wrong…..orange peels were too big for the blocks and the 1/4 sq triangles had no trim room and ended up a light small….just a bad day of sewing. I’m going to have to check the template I made….but I’m sure I was good with my 1/4″ seams…..is the 5 1/4″ block suppose to have much overage or extra for trimming? Maybe I just need to cut them at 5 1/2″?
I made my orange peels smaller than template, otherwise they wouldn’t fit in square with 1/4″ seam.
I think maybe there’s a typo in the book, and it should be template D3, rather than D4?
I love your emails, I just got my book today, I’m so excited. Thanks a lot. Enjoying reading the comments too
