The Quilt Block Cookbook: Block #11

March 14, 2017 4 Comments

I have a new block for you this week, and it’s super simple to make, which I hope will serve as a nice break from more tedious curves and paper piecing!  Stitch it up quick, post a photo on Instagram (#CookbookQuiltAlong), then get outside and take a walk (0r if you’re in the northeastern US, turn on a movie and snuggle up!  So much snow!)

I’m loving this warm color version above in the new Meriwether fabrics.  It’s pink and girlie!  And here’s my cool version from the book, below, in some of my favorite aqua blue and goldish yellow prints.  Hard to choose a favorite- I love both blocks!

A little reminder —don’t miss the trimming step before you begin piecing your units together— it’s crucial for your block to turn out to size.  Why trim?  Why not just cut the pieces to the perfect size before stitching up the units?  It all comes down to math.  Some blocks work out perfectly in simple 1/4” or 1/8” increments, and some don’t.  Unfortunately this one doesn’t- but no worries!  A simple trim fixes everything! :)

Block 11 ingredients

There are so many possibilities for quilts using this block!  I love the idea of a quilt entirely made of these, with no sashing.  Could also make a really cool modern pillow, or use several to make a clean, geometric table runner.

Oooh, one more thing….

I HAVE BOOKS!

That’s right- the reprint has shipped and I now have more signed books available in my shop here, and you’ll also see them on Amazon now, and in most places books are sold.  Yay for reprint!  Those of you who pre-ordered can expect it in the mail this week!  And if you don’t have one yet and haven’t joined us in stitching through the blocks, it’s not too late!  This is a very pick & choosy event where you are free to jump in or out at any time, and make as many or as few blocks as you like. :)

Ah- ok, actually one MORE thing!  For those of you who were Premium Members in last year’s Sugar Block Club, your quilt label is in the mail!  Be on the lookout for it!

Until next week, friends…

I haven’t seen any new post in a while. I hope your pregnancy has been going well and you are all settled in your new place. Hopefully this is just a glitch in my computer. Have a great day.

Amy! I sure miss your blogs, due to have her soon, huh? Be well my friend, and I pray you and the family are well in that part of the country. We didn’t make the move to Virginia, the market was too bad. Got down to see my mom and give her a prayer quilt, and give my brother and his wife a Christmas one. Be well my friend, Again i miss that beautiful, smiling face! God Bless you all!

Dear Amy, I hope you are doing well. Your first Craftsy Class inspired me to make a quilt for my daughter’s wedding gift, I had never made a quilt before. This year I made a log cabin quilt for my mother’s 90th birthday. Thank you for introducing me to quilting.
