The Time Has Come…It’s May 1!

May 1, 2013 25 Comments

It’s May 1st and we know what that means….another Sugar Block!  Today club members will find the pattern for this cute block in their inbox.

May Sugar Block

I’m calling it “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” after my favorite Stevie Wonder song, and because I think it looks like envelopes…containing mushy love letters, of course. :)  I am always amazed at the seemingly endless array of blocks to be made from a simple nine patch.  Throw in a few half square triangles and some flying geese, and you’ve got something completely striking and fun.  I also really love how the fabric choices really add dimension as well.

This is the fifth block in this year’s Sugar Block Club monthly series (late-comers, not to fret- you can still sign up).

May SBC Collage

I’m not typically one for solids, but I really dig how this is coming together!  It feels like coloring with a brand new box of crayons- fresh, untouched colors on a crisp white sheet of paper.  I’m already brainstorming about how I’m going to quilt it.  Hmmmmm….I know the quilting is really going to show more than it would on print fabrics, so I need to be choosy.  Might need to revisit Leah’s Quilting A Sampler class!

How are you all coming along with your blocks?  Doing ok?  Having fun?  I hope so!

XO

This is a clever little block, with the envelope theme. Since it always takes me a couple of days to choose which of my fabrics to use, I may be late getting this one done, but I am soooo ready for a vacation, May 8-28th, woohoo. Of course I will be taking a little project with me that you have inspired.

Your solid blocks had me intimidated for a bit. I just wasn’t sure what direction to go with my prints. But, last month I jumped in and I really like how the first 4 blocks look. I’m excited to try this month’s!

    Hi Amy

I love the way that the envelopes jump out. This course is really pushing me to do things that I wouldn’t be able to achieve. The first of the month is so exciting.

Okay, this block has made me fall right into the sugar bowl with everyone else! Not that the other blocks aren’t beautiful, but I just love this one! So I’m a late subscriber but a happy one :) Where can I find that bright and beautiful bundle of solids you are using? I’d like to try going all solids too. Thank you so much!

I just finished Aprils block, only had to rip 1 seam when I realized after sewing it altogether, that my print and solids weren’t alternating. It’s all good now. Had fun with this one, can’t wait to start on May’s…
