Up & At ‘Em

Today is one of those glorious days where I got up an hour before my children (!!!) and started the day right.  I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something about making your bed, that literally gives you a 350% chance of having a better day.   Those are pretty good odds, and coupled with strong coffee, well, you’re pretty much guaranteed to rule the world.

I love my bed

Changing out of pajamas helps too.  How about some makeup?  Heck, let’s go all out.  If this is going to be a great day, I’m going to want pretty eyelashes, more coffee, and a list!

Morning list

If you’ve followed my blog for some time, you probably know that I’m a major list-a-holic.  No joke.  A habit?  An addiction?  Let’s call it a lifestyle.  To-do lists, shopping lists, packing lists, lists of lists I need to make.  I love lists.  They help keep my ADD tendencies at bay and give me focus.  Do you ever feel busy ALL DAY, working, cleaning, starting projects, trying to finish projects, caring for kids, making sure your house doesn’t burn down, and somehow 8pm rolls around and it appears you’ve literally done nothing!?  Lists help.  Here’s what I want to do today.  Here’s what I will do today.  Even one item checked off is better than none.

Dinner in the crock pot before 10am?  Now THAT feels good.  If I don’t achieve anything else today, that will be enough (and the house having not burned down, of course).  Check!

Prepping my favorite chili

Kiddos are napping and schooling at the moment, so it’s time to get BUSY.  Next up?  Must start binding a yummy quilt I just got back from my dear friend, Denae of Plain Jane Quilting (check her out!  so quick and affordable!).  Hard to see in this pic, but the quilting is just the loveliest, swirliest feathers you’ve ever seen.  I can’t wait to get it bound and washed so I can share a ton more pics!

A quilt to bind

And I’m off!  Wishing you a glooooooriously productive…, or mellow…, or just plain happy day.  *HUGS*

XO

  1. What an energizing post! Makes me want to hurry home from work and get started on something productive. Thanks Amy, always love your posts. I was looking at Plane Jane Quilting website just yesterday and wondering if I should try her out on the Craftsy workshop quilt.

  2. I’m totally with you on the making the bed thing….always do mine every day and love to have lists of everything (though I suspect there is more than an element of ADD about it….probably a bit OCD too…still it works for me. :) The quilt looks fab….can’t wait to see it finished. x

  3. Oh! I totally agree with the 350% chance of having a better day when the bed’s made. Morning without strong coffee, well…just can’t imagine. That was so much fun to read. Your pictures are beautiful. Happy day to you, my friend!

  4. I think you have the right idea Amy. A list would sure make me feel more in control of my day night and whatever else. And I might even get something completed. Thanks for sharing your energetic self. Hugs

  5. Yay for super productive days! I’m another list-aholic :o)

  6. I definitely make lists of lists I need to make too. I thought I was the only one.

  7. Oh I so agree- dinner in the crockpot by 10 always improves my day! Hoping the rest of yours was just as great! xo

  8. absolutely. If the beds are made, it is going to be a good day! Those baby boys are adorable. How are they 1 already!?!

  9. I love this post! Being up before the kids always makes life easier. Even though I’m a SAHM I’m still up and showered before I have to get them ready for school. It’s just so much easier to face the day when I’m fully awake. The quilt looks lovely…can’t wait to see more of it.

  10. I love a lady who has her stuff together! Good for you! Are you a Flybaby from Flylady.net? :) You sound like it. Good thing you made sure hubs was out of the bed before you made it. ha ha We’re leaving for a trip to the coast tomorrow morning and if it wasn’t for lists, I’d leave just about everything. Hubs complains we always bring too much stuff but at the trip’s end, no we didn’t and we didn’t have to hit the Dollar General for anything so the extra effort is cost effective. Still on my list of to-do’s is September’s Sugar Block. I think I’ll add my sewing machine to the coast list!

It’s just 0515 now and you’ve inspired me. Crock pot – here I come!

What a difference a day makes,

  12. Love your post!! Love lists too, and I need to get some of your note pads…with my name!! that is awesome!!

  13. Ditto Ditto Ditto…I love when my bed is made before I go downstairs for the day. The worst is washing the sheets then tossing them on the bed while you run off to do something else then come back at night, ready to go to bed and find you never made the bed. UGGHHH!! Ok, Graph paper = Love! Personalized stationary = double love!! BUT personalized graph paper = Hands in the air yelling whoot whoot!!! May I ask where you got it from?

Seriously love your mug! And your Cutco knives! Aren’t they the best?
    I love lists too! .

    Hi Amy,
I love to make lists too!! The only problem that I have is if something isn’t on the list, I will never remember to do it no matter what it is!! LOL LOL Too bad for us you don’t have time to write everyday! You sure know how to make a girl feel happy despite the type of day she might be having. Thank you Amy for being such a positive force in our lives… I only wish the best for you and family each and everyday!!!

Have fun crossing off those things on your list! I know I will!

    Cheers!
    Dawn : )

  16. I love those kind of days and I’m amazed at how much you can accomplish! But I dare leaving you a comment, I know you answer all of them! Hope you had a wonderful day, mine is already finishing and it was a lovely summery day with lots of children moments :)
    Best wishes from Spain ;)

  17. Amy so happy to here your day started so great! I also was up early and finished a wedding dress before going to credit union and shopping.Latter in the day took me about 3 hours to sew on 3 hooks and eyes ,so many interruptions and I wonder way some things seam to take for ever. I also make list.

  18. there is something to be said about starting the morning off correctly. Sounds like a glorious day, indeed.

Add to your list: blog MORE OFTEN
Hubby and I have had a rule for years..last one up makes the bed. We both kind of wake up and look out for stirrings and try NOT to be the last one to hit the floor. It’s fun but I’m often the loser.

  20. Thank you for a great post. What an awesome way to start your day and stay on top of things. Love it. I just found you when I was at FaveQuilts and will be following your blog. I enjoy the way you write and your quilts are all beautiful!

  21. High five! I love those kinda days.

Amy, I so love coming to your blog. And this post is one of the reason’s why. I too love to make list. I make lists of my lists. Because let’s face it, to just put “laundry” on a list doesn’t do this job justice. I have to have a seperate Laundry List with each load that is washed (check), dried (check), put away (umm, I think check). Just to say “I’ve done the laundry” doesn’t sound as impressive as “I’ve done 3 loads of towels, 2 loads of lights, 1 load of darks, and 1 load of jeans.” Thanks for being so real with all of us and sharing your wonderful life.
