What a week! I finished piecing a custom 68 X 90 Fruit By The Foot quilt for an Etsy customer in NYC- quilting it this weekend and shipping it off as soon as the Post Office is open (holiday weekend = Eek! I need to get it out!).
Also, this heirloom quilt was passed to me a few days ago, via my mother, who has just finished sorting through my grandmother’s estate. Holy wow! No wonder I’m a quilting addict- it runs in my blood!
This was made in the late 1800s by my great great great grandmother, Dora Belle (Ironically we named our first daughter Nora Belle, before we even knew of this family name!). One side is crazy patchwork, completely outlined in gorgeous embroidery. The other side is a string quilt…the kind I’ve been wanting to make for quite a while, as soon as I’m finished with a few projects I’m in the middle of. Notes from my Grandma say it was their wedding quilt, and was on their bed for years and years.
I’m so honored to have it! Any ideas on how I should store it and/or display it??
