Can you believe January is almost over?? We’ll be diving into another fun Sugar Block in just a few days! I thought I’d celebrate wrapping up our first month of 2016 SBC fun with a GIVEAWAY! Not one, but two fabulous goodies up for grabs this week!
Giveaway Prize #1:
How about some gorgeous fabric?? I am just giddy about my Blogger’s Choice bundle up on Fat Quarter Shop this month…some of my favorite reds, blues, and greens from some of my favorite designers…Denyse Schmidt, Anna Maria Horner, Sweetwater, and more. Isn’t it just happy? I can’t wait to get mine and start cutting in to it. Fat Quarter Shop is generously offering one of these 12 pc bundles to one lucky reader here on my blog!
Giveaway Prize #2:
If you’re crazy about blocks, you’re doing to have a ball with my friend AnneMarie Chany’s beautiful new book, Sister Sampler Quilts (Fons & Porter/F+W; $19.99 http://www.sistersamplerquilts.com)
This book is based on a really fun idea that I think I just might get in the habit of myself- making 2 of each sampler block at a time. In the book, these blocks are “sisters” and go in the same sampler quilt for added cohesion, but made in different fabrics. I’m SO wish you on this AnneMarie- if you’re going to make a sampler block…figure out the instructions, cut out all the pieces, and put it together…why not just make two?! This way you get to see what the block looks like in 2 fabric options, and you can either make a bigger quilt, or make two quilts! The blocks in this Vice Versa sampler play with placing prints/background fabric in opposite spots. LOVE this idea! Same block- two completely different looks (and yet they match well).
I love this Box & Star Frame block! It’s been way too long since I’ve made a string style quilt and these blocks are making me feel like I want to make one!
This pair of blocks made me thing of the units that I’m always making in pairs- half square triangles for one, and quarter square triangles as yet. Two-at-a-time units would make the two-at-once blocks even quicker. (by the way, how cute is the polka dot backing and binding on that quilt!!!)
SO- two fabulous prizes to be won this week, my dear Sugar Blockers!!!
How do you win?!? It’s easy!
Step 1: To win this giveaway, you must be on my mailing list. Sign up in the box below, and note that if you receive an error, it means you’re already on the list so you can skip this step. Folks on my mailing list receive the free Sugar Block Club pattern each month, and are also the first to know about all the latest fun stuff in Dock land- giveaways, new patterns, books, classes, fabric, and more. I never ever send more than 1 email per week.
Step 2: Leave a comment to this post letting me know what you love most about making quilt blocks.
That’s it!! I’ll announce a winner on Monday- Feb 1. Good luck!
XOXO
I love the satisfaction that I created something – from selecting the fabric to construction to the final product!
I just love piecing quilting blocks. It is so cool to see how they look after I am finished. It gives me such great satisfaction, relaxes me, and allows me to be creative.
It’s fun to try something new!
I love creating all kinds of things. My current favorite is quilting followed by cross stitch. I love picking out the fabric, trying new blocks and techniques, and starting new projects.
As I am somewhat of a beginner I love the satisfaction I feel when it all comes together like it should :)
I love picking out the fabrics and trying something new.
When I make quilt blocks, I like learning new ways to create a block and in the process, keeping my piecing skills sharpened.
I love the methodical detail work in lining up points and keeping seams even and calculating sizes of blocks/cuts/etc… But I also love the creative side of trying new color combinations and seeing how different layouts work together for different blocks!
I like to explore new methods of creating and the challenge of accuracy
I love choosing fabrics and finding out what they look like together. It’s always a surprise.
I love that I can create something that makes me happy.
I love the finished product!
I love playing with colour. Not in colouring books (because I can’t stay in the lines, too boring), but with fabric.
The fresh new variety in every project! The wonderful ability to personalize every project. A friend and I often buy the same fabric but knowing we do is at all similar to the other!
I really love learning new things and skills when I make quilt blocks. Also, I love finishing! Seeing how it all comes together.
I have a short attention span so I love making sampler quilts…always something new!
Love the idea of making “Sister” Block – using time wisely!
Thanks for a chance to win.
I love auditioning different fabrics and trying out new blocks! Interesting and fun!
I love the skills I can try out and practice with new blocks. Since selecting fabric often takes a lot of the time, I love the idea of sister blocks in the same fabric with different placement.
I love seeing the blocks come together and seeing the unexpected designs emerge.
I love the freedom it allows- fabric choices, placement, etc. I also love seeing it complete- sometimes I knew just what it would look like and sometimes it’s a bit of a surprise! Thanks- just joined your mailing list and looking forward to it!
The think I love most is trying something new that I haven’t done before.
I just plain love playing with fabric color combinations and the challenge of getting the block square!
I love seeing how the fabrics I have chosen come together!
I love the satisfaction when I get my points right! And it’s ok when it’s not all perfect but making the blocks I’m still learning new things!
Love the success of the completed block when everything comes together perfectly! Or striving for this utopia.
I love to play around with placement of colors in a block! Thank you so much!
My favorite part of quilt making is the cutting and piecing of the blocks. This looks like a really fun book!
It’s like a puzzle, that I get to keep around the house forever.
I love the whole process in creating a block, from choosing the design, picking out fabrics, to the joy of sewing all the pieces together and getting a beautiful block as the result!
I like that blocks are done one at a time (or in pairs like you mention), so I feel like I’ve finished something. It can be a mini quilt, a mug rug, a pillow, or I can store up a bunch of squares and make something to keep warm with! A sense of accomplishment :)
Selecting the fabric and learning shortcuts to cutting and sewing.
I love how quickly blocks can come together. I need that quick gratification or I tend to get bored with a project. With blocks I get that feeling of satisfaction fast and it motivates me to keep working on the project. The infinite variety and designs of blocks are staggering. It’s amazing what you can do with them!
I love selecting the fabric combinations for a quilt block.
i love making the blocks best just have fun with them. The part i hate is the sandwiching
No matter how long i have been quilting it is always fun and often educational when doing sampler blocks. I look forward to making up a new sampler quilt. Oh what fun I shall have.
I love the meticulousness of having correct cutting and careful 1/4″ seams mixed with the creative part of picking fabrics and choosing patterns.
I like all the color in choosing and making quilt blocks, and then seeing the final design develop. Thanks for sharing the giveaways!
I love making blocks and learning new techniques and skills. Love, love love the fabrics.
My favorite part of making quilt blocks is selecting the fabrics–trying to envision how the lights and darks and prints will work together. I’m still pretty new to quilting, so this is something that I find challenging but fun!
I love seeing them come together, like a puzzle , and how different they can be with different colors and fabric
I love all the steps in creating a quilt from picking out the fabric to binding. It is so rewarding to see the finished product from all your hard work
I love pressing the block when it’s finished and seeing the beautiful final design!
HI, love your Blog! Love all the steps in piecing, quilting and binding. Slowly learning to top stitch in free motion+struggling>more practice I think! Thank You for sharing!
I am new to quilting but am loving making something beautiful from scraps from my dressmaking projects! So satisfying xx
I couldn’t pick what I love best, because I love selecting a design and fabric, then sewing the bits together. When it all comes together, it is an incredible creative feeling! One thing I do HATE, though – is unpicking “missnakes”. Unfortunately, frogging is probably an essential part of the learning process. :-)
I love piecing blocks in a way that can honor traditional patterns with modern influence to (hopefully) make new, timeless combinations.
I love cutting into beautiful new fabrics and then pulling from my scraps to tie the colour schemes together when making new block designs.
I love color and playing with fabric. I love seeing people’s smiles when they receive a quilt. I’ve given most of mine away.
It costs far too much to post things to Australia, but I did see your special fabric just last night whilst looking at cat and/or Downton Abbey Egyptian material with my friend at the FQS online!!!
I love quilting because I do it with my friends every fortnight. We started with your Craftsy BOM 2012 and have been quilting ever since. They are all teachers and I had to retire early because of poorliness, so every time we meet I teach them a new block. To have a small chance to teach again is so lovely and we have so much fun – and supper!!!!
I love how there is so much to do when making a quilt- from the initial design, to choosing the fabric, to the piecing, to the hand sewing or to the actual machine quilting- there is something to be done that can match my current mood.
I’m just a beginner but I like to choose the fabric, to cut it and assemble. And then admire the result.
I love choosing fabrics and piecing the most!
I love how you combine 2 or more different fabrics in a block and it can change the entire look of a block.
I love learning new blocks and trying new techniques.
I love seeing the colors and prints come together to make a new pattern.
I am SOOOO ready for block #2 ! bring it on!!! :)
the blocks are one of the most fun parts of the quilt. I love picking out the fabric the most and then seeing it come to life in the blocks is next!
What I love most about making quilt blocks is that it is so DOABLE! It can be overwhelming to think about making a whole quilt but if you break it into blocks, it seems like something that I can accomplish. That’s why I like block of the month programs and I’m really excited to be doing the Sugar Block Club this year!
I LOVE It when a block comes together: points and seams are aligned and near perfect, and you can see the fabrics you chose just smack of WOW! And, you can’t wait to get the next one going. Piecing quilt tops is sooooo much fun.
I love the planning stage- mentally sifting through fabric choices until it feels “just right”! What I love about Amy’s quilt blocks specifically are the uplifting color ideas and overall approach to life! Always positive, always family first, always using quilting as a conduit of happiness!
Looking forward to more fun blocks this year! So glad you took a break last year, I gave me a chance to decide on a layout for the last two Sugar Block Clubs!! Thanks for the great inspiration for this year.
Quilt blocks remind me of puzzles; so, before I read a pattern I like to study the block and try to figure out how the block will go together. I love the satisfaction when the block is all pieced … it feels like the puzzle has been solved, so to speak!
The love the way the fabric surprises me when it is joined together. Magic happens then!
Beautiful fabrics, and great ideas in the book. Thanks for the chance.
My favorite thing is seeing how the colors come together. I love art and the play of colors, textures, and patterns next to each other and how certain colors make others pop. Even though I choose the colors for my quilt blocks, I never get tired of seeing how it comes together!
The whole process takes me to a very happy place. So satisfying to see how it comes together to make something so beautiful.
I love playing with colors and prints, then catching up on podcasts and audiobooks when the assembly line is in place.
I love the sense of satisfaction of making something, even if it’s just one block. And now with all those great collage apps you can easily see what a whole quilt would look like!
I love seeing a block you like and then discovering how it goes together. When I get it done I feel tickled that I did it!
I love getting to play with all the pretty fabrics in all their pretty colors. Making quilt blocks is just fun color play for me!
I love the whole process – choosing a design and fabric, and then seeing it being ‘built’. I especially love the pleasing satisfaction of seeing a completed block.
I like to be surprised by the colors and pattern coming together.
What I love most is that I’m in charge of choosing colors, fabrics, layout of the quilt.
My creativity is the only border!
I like learning new techniques when making blocks. If I don’t want to do an entire quilt, that’s okay because a runner only takes a few.
I love piecing blocks — but dislike the next step of sewing the blocks together. Samplers & scrappy quilts work best for me because it’s easier to think of the quilt as one big block!
I love trying out different fabric. It is amazing what different fabric, values, etc. can change the entire look of the block or quilt. Often I am so surprised!
I love playing with the pretty fabrics so the Siaters blocks book sounds like a lot of fun!
I love the feeling of completion of a block (a quilt is even better!), especially when I’ve tried a new technique.
I love the meditative part of making quilt blocks.
I love seeing them come together. As much as I try to imagine how it will come out, it’s always a surprise!
I love so many things about making quilt blocks! It is a great outlet for creativity! I love that given the same block, 10 quilters would make 10 totally different looking creations! It is a way to express your style and be able to show who you are.
May favorite thing about making a quilt block would be seeing how the color and design come together. I love picking out fabric and then visualizing how it will go together. The finished piece is always so much better than I could have imagined!
The best part is really learning something new, whether technique to design to fabric choice.
I think the thing I like about making quilt blocks (and quilts) is this process of imagining something and bringing it to life. I do that a lot in my cooking too, but the quilts last far longer than a good meal.
I love seeing the fabrics come together.
I like the mini feeling of completion. It’s like a tiny finished top!
I love the way the same shapes can look completely different when you change up the colors.
I love joining my favorite fabrics with a block design I have wanted to get my hands on! Love seeing it on my design wall knowing I did it!
The best part of blocks is when they come together in a quilt. Sometimes you get all the colors just perfect and the quilt sings.
I love the whole process, from choosing the colors to piecing the block . Lately I have been experimenting with changing the size of blocks.
My favorite part of quilting is making the blocks. I love seeing the design come together. Sampler quilts are my favorite because of all the different designs,
i love the challenge of trying a new technique, and the surprise each time something actually works and the points come together!
Discovering your blog has inspired me to try block quilting for the very first time. I am loving how all the pieces come together. It’s such a puzzle how it is going to work but making the first block gave me such a thrill. I cannot wait to see the next block.
The thing I love most about making a block is how close it makes me feel to my grandmother. Every time, I am simply overwhelmed with memories of spending time at her knee while she worked on her quilts in varying stages. Though she is no longer with us, creating, sewing and finishing a quilt block brings her right back to me for that briefest of moments.
I love playing with the colours and seeing how just a little change can alter the whole look of a quilt.
I like the organized creativity in a block. Instructions to follow but enough freedom in selecting fabric and color.
renragjd@gmail.com
I love so many parts. If I have to choose one it would be the making of the quilt – cutting, sewing, quilting, binding. I receive your emails which is good as I enjoy them. Thanks.
Love playing with color and seeing the final step of a block and how the colors go together!
To sit, and make a block involves all of me. My thought process, my love of fabrics, my time, my creativity, my mood, finally my satisfaction (or not) : ) depending how it turned out.
When I use a colour/pattern combination that I’m not sure will work – then it surprises me by being absolutely spot-on when the block comes together. That’s what I love.
I love the new ideas and fabrics you can put together without having to make a whole new quilt
I like working on a block at a time, which leads to greater satisfaction seeing a whole project come together in the end.
I love the oh ya feeling that comes from seeing my fabrics come together and knowing the finished quilt will be beautiful
I love everything about quilting, but I mostly like fabric selection. That’ s why I love samplers; you can select ‘new’ fabrics for each block. Thank you for the lovely giveaway. I really enjoy your BOM project :)
I just love how relaxing it is to come in and work on blocks. I love to see the whole top come together as I add each block to my flannel wall. It’s really sasitfying. I get excited over every block.
the process is calming and the result is useful in chilly weather. I adore my quilts. I learn something new all the time.
I love seeing the way different combinations of colors and fabrics transform a block.
I love the endless possibilities of a quilt block. It can look many different ways by changing colors, turning on point or adding sashing. One block many quilts!
I like the challenge of piecing a block new to me. Completing a block is one step closer to a finished quilt.
I love to be inspired by a quilt designer and to see how my quilt will turn out the same but also totally different.
What I like about making blocks is trying new techniques and fabric combinations.
I love when I’ve cut accurately and the piecing goes together like it should with an correctly sized block!
My life is pretty stressful as I work long hours in our business. What I love about making blocks is that the challenge is there but it’s not too overwhelming. I can switch off from everything else and enjoy the process, a challenge to test me but not such a huge project that it won’t fit into my leisure time. I like the whole process of picking out the colours, working out what I have to do, having you as inspiration and then seeing the end result. Quilting is so good for body and soul and I just love seeing the achievements of everyone and how they have interpreted the block. It’s my little treat and one I love dearly.
I love that each block is like a little individual accomplishment and work of art. One block is a manageable task to fit into most any day.
I piece blocks by hand and I find peace and contentment in putting together the various blocks.
I love when it all comes together, the colors, the points, the design, and it’s a tiny cute little quilt all by itself!
I love the whole process but choosing the fabric that best suits the design and person the quilt is being made for and then the satisfaction when it all works out and you can proudly say, “I made that!” Is very special.
Beautiful fabric and very nice blocks
I love the fabric selection and seeing it come together and how different combos make such different blocks. I had already made two of the January block in different combos – thinking I would make a larger quilt!
For me, It’s sometimes ‘ just do it ‘ letting everything else be as it is. Then, when It’s finished
I look at the world with new eyes. ; )
I love seeing the whole plan come together. After choosing a pattern and picking all the fabrics, I like that “ta-da” moment when you see the image in your head come to life.
I love deciding the fabric pull! I’ve made a lot of swap blocks in the last few years, and the idea of just going ahead and making two already is a great one!
I love to give them away to people who appreciate them and watch their faces when they open them!!
I love that im making something useful, something that can be used daily and appreciated for many years.
i love to learn new blocks thanks for the change to win
The rainbow of colors are endless – which means we can quilt forever…
I like choosing colors and seeing the quilt come together.
I Like the satisfaction of seeing the blocks I make become a quilt that will wrap someone in warmth and love. Also the bright colors of the fabrics are fun, especially in the middle of winter. I think the book will have great ideas how to use the fabric. Thank you for a chance at your giveaway.
I began quilting this past year as a hobby to keep myself busy and distracted while I am home helping my husband battle stage 4 cancer. He sleeps a LOT and I want to be in the house whenever he needs me! What I’m loving about putting quilt blocks together is the FUN of the creative process and (as you mention in your post) happy fabric just makes me smile!!
Love using my stash ! !!
I love working on a small project each day that quite suddenly will come together into a big beautiful creation! And if I make a mistake it’s easy to restart just a little block. 😊
I love playing with gorgeous fabric and seeing the end result in a beautiful quilt block! Thanks for the chance at your fab giveaway!
I love getting all the components ready and laying the pieces out like a puzzle and putting it together. It’s so fun to see it happen. Your selection bundle looks yummy!!
I love to see what you can make with some fabrics. Thanks for the chance!
I love shopping for fabrics the best, scouring Pinterest for design ideas, and finally getting to put the two together to see what happens. The whole process has gotten even better now that my daughter (11) is totally hooked on the craft, too. Nothing is better than both of my machines going at once and the shrieks of joy when we put our newest blocks on the design wall…although I may need a bigger wall pretty soon… :)
I love the satisfaction of finishing something so beautiful
I love steam pressing each section of the block; and then pressing the finished block… just smoothing out those rough places!
Love the new blog header and tag-line!!
Thank you so much for the beautiful 2016 blocks. Mine are tentatively going into a blue and white quilt!
It is sort of like working on a gig saw puzzle – each piece fits in it’s own place and every addition changes the look of the process until finally the finished product appears!
I love the big reveal!
The fabrics that you use for your quilts are just the best. It is hard to find such quality fabrics where I live and often have to drive hours and they are not nearly as nice. Your ideas are also great. This is one of the best blogs that I have found.
Thanks,
Kathie
Getting the points perfect is the best part! Thanks for the give away and the chance to win!
I love your fabric bundle, Amy! Such beautiful choices :) My favourite part of making blocks is seeing them come together and getting an idea of what the finished quilt will look like. Thanks for the chance to win!
Getting those points perfect is the best part! Thanks for the give away and the chance to win.
I love sewing the block together, pressing, and seeing that it is the perfect size you were striving for!
I love creating! Quilting fills that creative need in me. My favorite quilts are samplers. In fact the first full sized quilt I ever made was with you on Craftsy’s Block of the month. I remember how excited I was on the first of each month to log on and watch your video presentation of the next two blocks. I now proudly have that quilt on my bed! Quilting is a journey that continues to bring me satisfaction like nothing else!!!
I love the look the mirror image blocks have. I can’t wait to make them.
I love cutting new fabrics and the precision of putting them all back together again for a totally new look. Also learning new, easier techniques for more precise piecing. Look forward to the next round of Sugar blocks.
I love picking out the fabrics I will use for each Block.
I’m really a beginner in this, but have always loved quilts. I feel I need to take a class so I know what I am doing.
I love the neatness of blocks and how they all fit together.
I love how you can see the block come together and how it makes me start thinking how it would look with other colors, twisted around on point, how i am going to quilt it, and the million other ideas that crop up while making it.
My favorite part of block making is putting all the pieces back together and seeing the finished picture! The pressing is fun to me too! It is like the finishing touch!
I love the selection of fabrics and coming up with just the right choices to go with a pattern. Then I love the finished product whether I’m keeping a quilt or gifting one.
I love picking the fabrics a d the process of cutting and putting together a whole out of pieces.
Love the idea and I’ve tried it, but never called them “sister blocks”. It’s surprising how one block can look so different depending on the fabrics. That’s the joy of quilting; one idea leads to another.
I really love trying something new with quilt blocks. I think that is why I have so many UFOS, because there is always something new and interesting to try.
I love choosing the fabrics, putting the colors together and then watching it all come together.
I love learning new blocks and picking out the fabrics for them! thanks!
I have been quilting for over 30 years and I have yet to finish a sampler quilt, not sure why, I do have a few started. I love the sense of accomplishment that quilting gives me, I especially love gifting my quilts, or bags, table runners, etc. time well spent,
I’m a scrappy kind of girl and I love making blocks using scraps. It’s like making a kaleidoscope with fabric.
Trying different color combinations and seeing how that changes the look of the block is fun for me.
It is fun! As a new quilter, I love the learning process, learning the different ways to make the same block and the joy of a finished block and then the quilt!
patsystitch@gvtc.com
I love the satisfaction that comes with each completed block. Each one is like a small finished project on its own.
I love seeing the colors and fabrics come together! Thank you!
I love the sense of accomplishment I get when I complete a quilt block. Love to see my points are “almost” prefect ( maybe more like pretty good). I like scrappy, so love to see how the colors interplay. The idea of sister blocks is interesting, always amazes me how same block/quilt can look completely different in another color way .
I get so excited seeing everything come together! Thanks!
I love just about everything about making quilt blocks….the planning, picking out the perfect fabric, cutting, sewing and of course watching it all come together. Thanks for the giveaways!
I love creating a new block each month. Picking new colors & seeing how this looks. Thanks for the inspiration.
Each new block I try gives me a chance to learn, create, and experiment.
Time spent sewing gives me a lift for the day!!
wow what a question. hmm, what I love about the process is the finished product. giving it to someone who loves it for what it is-a part of you.
I do love seeing little pieces of fabric slowly come together to make something new and useful. It’s such a blessing to know that hours of snuggles happen wrapped up in a quilt that I made!
My favorite part in the process is sewing the quilt tops. I love to see all my hard work come together. The results are often more beautiful than I first imagined.
I love making eclectic blocks. Just throwing caution to the wind and go. Those usually are my favorites ;c) I tried to sign up for your block club but not sure it went through. I didn’t get an error but it didn’t do anything when I hit send. I’d like to be on the list.
As a former worker, now retired, I love to sew. I learned in high school and have never really stopped. Now I am 75 with three adult grandchildren and 1 great grandson, I love making quilts. It keeps me alive!! This past Christmas, I made both my daughters, my 2 granddaughters, my grandson and my great grandson a quilt and I think it was the best gift I have ever given them.
The fabric selection is what I like about making blocks.
I love being in my own little world, creating something new each time and always making a ‘ONE OF A KIND”
block. No two blocks are alike when you pick your own fabric.
I love the finished product! I love getting it “Just right”!!
Thanks for the chance to win!!
I love seeing the fabrics that I have chosen for a block (or an entire quilt) come together in a pattern. The best is when it looks as good or eve better than I had imagined.
I love how different a block can look by just changing the fabrics.
I love experimenting with the different combinations of colors and shapes and how they come together as separate pieces to create a whole beautiful one of a kind work of art.
I enjoy the challenge of a new block and the satisfaction of mastering it. Your blocks are always wonderful!
I love playing with fabric colors and textures; seeing how they come together to create something ‘new’. Making blocks is a work of the heart ~ creating something that will be used and useful to someone (even if it’s just for me). Blocks are always an opportunity to build and perfect my sewing skills.
I love figuring different ways to put the blocks together to make different designs!
I love the colors going together in blocks I make. I often get bored with matchy matchy sameness of planned quilts. So I might start a quilt and then leave it after 2-3 blocks.
Love it all…….touch, smell, sounds of the sewing machine…………I get lost in the magic.
Such a passion!!!!!
Thanks
It’s the challenge of making a new block that I love! Once finished – the sense of accomplishment is awesome!
I love making blocks. I have tried buying fabrics to make a quilt and get as far as the blocks and never assemble the quilt tops. It is my goal this year to put all those blocks together and then start again.
I love playing with all sorts of colors and seeing what combinations are successful!
Thanks for the give-a-way!!
It is just so cool to realize you can make a beautiful quilt block out of scraps of fabric. I love it!
I love it when the block comes together. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction.
I love the methodical way of lining up combinations of fabric to make something beautiful.
What I love most about making quilt blocks is choosing the fabrics to put together to create each block.
I love seeing it come together.
Quilt blocks give me a chance to perfect my quilting skills and a chance to try new color combinations that I might like for a whole quilt or just a the same block for the whole quilt.
Looking at the finished block–thinking about all the fabrics I auditioned and chose, the piecing and then just admiring the finished block!
color, color, color….love how color comes alive in patterns when you make quilt blocks and then piece them together.
AND…. I love your new header! Do you paint with brushes as well as with fabric? Love it! God has blessed you with so much talent and I love that you made a little business to help support your family with the talent God gave you. Keep HIM #1 :)
When it all comes together at the end after all the pieces have been sewn gives me such satisfaction and helps me to go on to make the next block.
The endless options by changing up fabrics and quilt block designs and layouts!
i most enjoying sewing each finished block together watching the finished pattern come together.
I love the idea of making 2 sampler blocks instead of just 1.
I enjoy the entire quilting process. I love seeing a block come together just like the finishing pieces in a fun puzzle. I especially enjoy making sampler quilts.
I’m in two quilt clubs with my cousins, so what I like best about making quilt blocks is I get to spend time with them!.
I just love piecing which leads to a multitude of UFO’s! 😱 I love the finished product but piecing is the most fun for me.
I love making quilt blocks for many reasons – they are the process by which I finish quilt projects, each one is a bit different, with each one I get more skilled in putting them together, there are endless possibilities of how they can look with fabric and size changes – they’re just plain fun!!!
What I love about quilt, is that you can have so many options with few prints.
Possibility are endless. and sometime so hard do decide.
But this keep my mind and fingers happy.
I love the entire quilting process…..the fabric selection would be on the top of the lost.
I love most selecting the fabric and piecing it together!
The whole process of picking fabric, the feel of the fabric and the satisfaction of the end results is what I love about making blocks and quilting.
I just love the satisfaction of taking a bunch of little pieces and putting them back together and having them work into a beautiful new look!
Quilting has brought me new friends, near and far. I enjoy weekly sewing bees, retreats and exchanging ideas with quilters all over the world on the web. Your Sugar Block Club projects are always part of my annual sewing projects.
I love seeing the pattern reveal itself. Between the colors and the pieces and seeing the final pattern gives my heart a flutter
It’s all about the fabric and seeing it all come together!
I love the “feel”of the fabric underneath my hands and the beautiful color combinations available to “test dive” with a new block—so much fun!
Brand new quilter coming from a scrapping background. It’s a lot alike except I use a needle rather than glue! My mom was a fabric-holic and I think I might be too!
I have started my year with a goal of creating two blocks per month from the Sisters Sampler book, as well as joining the Sugar Block Club for the first time! My first two blocks used totally different fabric colors and both have turned out very interesting! Now i am onto the Sugar Block Club block! I love creating new things, whether it be quilting, sewing, or cross stitch!
I enjoy choosing the fabrics, LOVE the cutting & piecing, and the final pressing to see the finish. But the BEST is the fresh start, each time I start a new block or quilt, which is why I “sew” enjoy sampler quilts and sew alongs!
Once one is made, creating a second in a new color way saves time.👍 I get a new block and I get my quilt done more quickly so I can begin a new one. Yeah! Thank you for “Sugar Block”.
I love the accuracy of making the blocks. I’ll keep trying until everything matches up
I love everything from choosing fabrics and cutting the pieces to putting it all together. And I love laying all the individual blocks out to decide on a layout. :)
I love trying new blocks. Pushing myself to try something a little challenging and it always comes out fabulous! And you have so much versatility when picking blocks, colors, sizes, and even what to do with them. I recently took a block and made it into a mug rug.
My favorite part of making a quilt block is choosing the fabric and arranging them to see how the block changes . Always amazed at how placement of fabric gives a different feel!
I love quilting. Amy Gibson inspires me to be creative.
I love it when a block turns out the way it’s designed and my fabric choices do it justice. That’s always nice.
I like putting them together, but what I really love most is when a pieced block turns out just as I wanted it to ~ you know, the right size, colors and all that!
Thanks for the giveaway ~ I’m loving what I’m seeing in Sister Sampler Quilts!
That they can take on a completely different look based on the fabrics you choose!
I love to put unexpected colors & patterns together. Sometimes it is a definite win, sometimes it is a learning experience. Love to just play with the textures, colors and patterns.
I’m pretty green at making quilt blocks, but compared to my first quilt that was a herringbone pattern of all HSTs, making blocks gives me a “mini quilt” to focus on a block at a time. Then there is the satisfaction of having a small but substantial part of the intricate piecing done!
I love choosing all of my fabrics and also the surprise of how those fabrics come together each time a new block is finished. So fun!
I feel a sense of accomplishment when I can look at the block and see how the colors look stitched together. Then I can’t wait to sew some more!
I love when a block comes together with perfect intersections.
I love piecing the blocks and see how magical the quilt unfolds as you place them together.
I love how fabric choices can make the same block look completely different. I love it when the colors pop!
What do I love about quilt blocks? Construction! I cut everything (after I gather my colors) iron everything nicely! and begin! I slowly go through the process. Tingling excitement! When my block is done adpressed perfectly and trimmed to size, it goes on the design wall and I can smile and examine closely. and if Im pleased I start all over again!!!!
I love it when my points line up! I also love pressing a finished block. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love deciding what pattern to use to make my blocks. I also love putting them together.
I just love to make Quilts. I wish I had more time.
I love being able to accomplish something in a shorter time then pull it all together.
I am two-sided when it comes to cutting into new fabric. Sometimes i can’t wait , and other times i just want to admire its cuteness.
Thanks for the giveaway and the BOM clybs you host. 🌸
I love the color combinations that different blocks create.
I love the sense if accomplishment and knowing Thai I have made a one-of-a-kind item that is like no other in the world.
I love to see the blocks come together with the color combinations I have chosen.
Love this idea too! I’m currently working on her BOM from last year. So much fun! Thanks for the giveaway.
I just started quilting so I am very interested in learning how to make new blocks. I would love to win this.
Just plain love to sew and put colors together and then give away my quilts. Great therapy!
I love falling in love with a block then playing with my fabrics to find just the right combination of perfect fabrics to make the block pop when done.
I love creating something that is so beautiful yet also useful!
I enjoy the creativity, and choosing the perfect block pattern to show case the fabric as well as the overall quilt design. I am going to do the Sugar Block Club with my 6 yr old daughter! Can’t wait to see what fabrics she puts together. ;)
I love the feeling of accomplishing something creative.
Have been perfecting my skills on Jan. blocks and am happy to try and get either of these treats!
New challenge and looking for the right
fabrics! (in the stash)
I never in a million years thought I’d like to make quilt blocks. I thought they’d be fiddley and hard to do. But, once I tried a class I love it. I think I love all the different fabrics the most. Pre cuts are very convenient. Oh, and the ladies I quilt with are true sole mates!!! :)
Making quilt blocks relaxes me. And, by the way, love the fabrics you chose for the give-away. Some of my favs.
I love quilt blocks because of the variety of techniques that you can learn as you make each block and the variety of fabrics you get to choose to make an awesome quilt!
I like to pick out the colors.
What I love most about making a quilt block, is playing with all the colors!
I feel I am at my best when I’m being creative–playing with fabric, colors, patterns–it’s all a pleasure and I can get lost in the process and forget about everything else.
I love the mystery of a scrappy block…You get one done you want more done so you can see just how cool they all look together…………………. happyness04431@yahoo.com
I love your style and your blocks. I took your beginner Craftsy class and loved that you learned to sew in 4H just like me.
It’s simple
I love beautiful fabrics and I love quilting
I’ve being sewing very many years, but trying quilting for just a while. I do love seeing the patterns come together when you put all the little pieces in place!
I enjoy seeing every thing go from fabric to the finished quilt. The progress from 1 cut at a time to all cut. Going from 1 stitch at a time to a finished quilt to enjoy or give away. The building progress is fun to watch.
What I love most about making quilt blocks is the opportunity to feel creative. Even though I might be making something that has been passed down from decades ago, I can choose to give it a modern twist or explore my roots in a more traditional way in my fabrics choices and use of techniques. Quilt blocks are an easy way to have a bit of adventure with no risks!
I love learning something new with every block I make!! Even if I’ve made it before, I always learn something.
I am a beginner so I love being amazed when I finish a block and realize that I actually did it.
1. I LOVE fabric
2. I LOVE the process, very relaxing
3. I LOVE having the physical, usable result of my creative efforts
4. I come from a long line of sewers/quilters/makers…It is in my blood!
I love making blocks because they are so *doable*- low time commitment!!
I enjoy the challenge of piecing and the creative selection of color placement in blocks.
I love seeing small pieces turn into something beautiful! I like puzzles for the same reason, except with fabric, I can keep the finished project to use and love!
Thanks for the giveaway! Your curated bundle is beautiful! I think my favorite part of making blocks is just what a peaceful thing it has become for me. I still struggle with getting my corners lined up and get frustrated sometimes, but for the most part piecing has become a really restful, enjoyable activity for me.
I love to see the blocks come together. I’ve actually made two blocks with different fabric and it’s so exciting to see the difference.
I am new to quilting and just starting with blocks. It is exciting to start something small and see it grow. One block, many blocks and then you have a quilt.
Quilts have always meant warmth and love to me. I also enjoy trying new designs and learning new skills. Samplers are great for all these things.
I love the creativity involved in creating each block. From the block design, selecting fabric, cutting pieces and finally seeing them together involves using so many different parts of the brain. Seeing the final project after having it quilted fills me with joy and accomplishment.
Having been involved in online block swaps, I love the creating process and seeing the final results of the vision I had in my mind.
I have the book and plan to make a quilt from it – as soon as I finish a granddaughter quilt. Love your bundle!
Depending on size, fabric choices, color choices, what block is next to the block, quilt blocks look totally different from each other. It is a synergy of color, pattern, line – amazing what the result is!
I love the creative process and seeing the quilt come together. It feels so good when you finish a project and sew the last of the binding. Very rewarding!
I love the feeling of accomplishment as each block creates the quilt I have in my head.
It’s a little escape from the bump and grind! It’s so exciting to see when all the colors and patterns come together! And the best is sharing it with someone else and helping them to feel the same!
I love piecing different shapes and colors together and watching them become beautiful creations.
I love the instant gratification of seeing the finished block. When making a quilt, it takes a long time to get the whole thing together. Seeing each block finished makes it easier to keep plugging until it’s finished.
Yikes! What’s not to love!? It’s gratifying just to create something even if it’s not perfect. I’ve learned to just enjoy the whole process.
I was so excited when I got the email about your new block of the month. Thanks.
I feel I have to be making something all the time and quilt blocks are one of them. Just can’t get enough of working with fabric.
I’m in heaven when I am doing any part of the quilting process. Piecing the blocks is my favorite pastime.
I love the combination of fabrics you chose for your designer bundle from Fat Quarter Shop.
I’ve done your original craftsy BOM and followed you ever since. It’s fun to watch you and your little ones grow.
i love seeing the design come together as i piece each block and watching my points come out as planned.
Such an awesome giveaway!
I love making quilt blocks! I like trying new things and learning new techniques. And then seeing it all come together with colors and fabric of my choice and knowing that I created something beautiful is a fantastic feeling.
I am new to the world of quilting, but what I’ve done so far is so fun! So far I have given away everything I have made, am looking forward to making the Block Sugar Club quilt for ME!
As a new quilter i love the blocks to make and each one an opportunity to add to my fabric collection
I love watching the colors come together when making the blocks. So fun to experiment with different fabrics and different colors.
I love the Sugar block club. And my favorite thing has been to make several of the same block but with different fabrics each month. I started doing this with your Craftsy block of the month and every BOM since. It not only adds interest but it enlarges the quilt. I have made king, a queen, two extra long twins and now another king is in the making. I am amazed at how quickly you have enough blocks to construct a beautiful sampler quilt. Thank you Amy, your teaching technique and easy to follow directions make it so much fun and has made me a much more refined quilter. Thank you so much!
Hi I am glad that the sugar block club is back. I love your pattern layout and description which makes it helpful for me learning the new skills. I love that I can go to my stash and use what I have to create a pretty block. Thanks
I love watching the pattern come together!
I love making blocks, but do not enjoy putting the quilt together. It’s like working a jigsaw puzzle.
I love the fact that it allows me to learn something new, have fun and be creative all at the same time! Thanks for all you share with us Amy. You are always encouraging and your work is so delightful!
I like to try new blocks but don’t always make a quilt. I love to use blocks for all my other home projects. I love love fabric.
I love choosing the fabrics and then seeing a pile of finished blocks ready to sew together!
So many things go into making blocks, choosing the fabric, doing accurate cutting and construction techniques and then the final pressing. Seeing the results is the best part, after choosing and fondling the chosen and rejected fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway. Kathy in Colo
I like puzzles. A quilt keeps you warm and comforts you. The jigsaw puzzle doesn’t do that. You can’t wrap up in a jigsaw puzzle, and the puzzles aren’t king size (thank goodness!). But they both have the element of putting a “picture” together.
I’ve only made a rag quilt before. So just starting out. I’m drawn to the more modern quilts.
I love making small blocks that will be used in something big and see the end results.
I love to see the blocks come together and form unexpected secondary patterns that I didn’t realize would be there with the fabrics chosen!
I love the beauty created by lots of little pieces of fabric
I love that you can take scraps and make something beautiful.
I think little scraps make the best quilts.
I love that I’m creating something when making blocks, taking pretty fabric and making something that can be useful in my home. It’s also very relaxing.
I love how you can cut up fabric, sew it back together and you have something totally unique!
I love the Sugar Block Club blocks. Thanks for doing this again in 2016. Keep up the work inspiring quilters with your ideas on how to make these blocks uniquely our own. I am going to make two of each block this time so I can end up with two quilts.
I love playing with the fabric to find the perfect combinations and seeing the results in the block when it’s finished! I’d love to have this book!
I just love piecing blocks! My favorite part is when I do that last iron and I get to see the final product. Ahhhh.
I love the piecing – taking pieces and putting them together to make something wonderful.
As a beginning quilter I love seeing how everything comes together! Amazing how you can take pieces of fabric to create something so beautiful & yet so useful!
I love choosing the fabrics for a block and the satisfaction of finishing one piece of the “puzzle.”
I love the variety in crating different blocks. I have learned to square up after all the blocks are done and this has been a helpful tip
quilting is my therapy…playing with fabrics, design, I enjoy every step.
I love taking fabric and thread and turning them into something pretty and useful. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!
i love scrappy quilts….
I enjoyed making the block of the month. I used the blocks to make a table runner for my son’s family. Now I am working on the blocks for this year. Your instructions are always easy to follow.
Looking forward to a new Sugar Block! And, I just might have to go buy Sister Sampler. Looks like FUN!
I love that you can take little pieces of fabric and put them together to make beautiful blocks!
I give it a try, I love quiling blocks to make beautiful hanging wall decorations. Blocks are so versatile!
I have fun trying the blocks I make in different lay outs to get several options, take pictures and then decide which I like the best.
The things I love most about making quilt blocks are first, picking out my fabric (placing different fabrics together on my cutting table before I ever start cutting into them); and second, actually making the blocks. Sometimes they come together perfectly, and sometimes I have to unsew, but that doesn’t bother me. The process of learning new techniques and how to piece the blocks together is so calming and relaxing. I love it all!!! Thanks for the give aways!!!
i love to do anything quilt related. it is more of a compulsion than a desire. Making blocks is the basis of every quilt and part of my daily fun.
My favorite thing about making quilt blocks is seeing the colors play against each other and how simple shapes can make such intricate designs.
I like using up scraps.
I love putting together colorful scrappy blocks. They make me smile.
I love seeing how fabrics come together in a finished block. I love standing back and admiring my work. I decided to make two of this year’s sugar blocks so I’d end up with a larger quilt. I didn’t know that was a “thing”. :-)
Well! I had a dilly of a time finding where you could post your comments. I stopped using Internet Explorer this morning because links were not working. Switched to Chrome and links were fine. When I opened this email. NO LINKS were evident on moving the mouse over them. I was going nuts…so as a fluke I returned to Internet Explorer and Voilà the links worked. Computers drive me NUTS…Quilting relaxes me and I find enjoyment in all aspects, as I am learning all about it.
I love the satisfaction that comes when a block is finished and (hopefully) looks good. I can say “I made that happen!” Thanks!
I see tidbits of a few quilts I’d love to make from this book! Thanks for the chance!
It’s just so gratifying to get my hands dirty with fabric!! It sometimes just makes me giddy with joy to pick, cut, sew and admire! Thanks Mom!
I read many of the comments, I too enjoy the whole creating process, playing with the colors, shapes, simplicity vs. “OMG you’re kidding!” designs, having a sense of accomplishment. But, I also love the simplicity of being able to take it along, stitch in the car or on the train,or if the situation changes, I can stop and easily continue at a later time.
Picking the fabrics & colors
I love pressing the block and the end and seeing what I created from all those pieces of fabric.
My favourite thing about making quilt blocks is putting them alongside each other and seeing new patterns emerge.
The best part of making quilt blocks is knowing that i took scraps of nothing and made something beautiful for someone to cherish long after I’m gone!
the best part of sewing the block to me is that is the size it is supposed to be! Then with the help of your blog and craftsy bom, you have these really beautifully pieced blocks with a modern twist. Thank you so very much
I love choosing the fabric, piecing the block and seeing the finished product!
I just love to sew and put colors together!
My favorite part is the selecting and placing the colors together. I love combining colors and this selection is a great mix.
The best part about doing a block quilt is if I’m not happy with the quality or results of an individual block, I can toss it out without having to start the entire quilt over again!
I love how random pieces of fabric come to get her and make something beautiful. Well, most times, sometimes I make a not so beautiful block but, when put with others that are lovely it all works out. Thank-you for a great giveaway.
I love the peace and contentment in finishing a well made block. From picking out the prints and colors to use, sewing them together and actually have them come out as a beautiful block. To me, that is a true accomplishment that I have done.
what fun fabrics. thanks for the chance to win.
I love putting the blocks together & in some cases rearranging them to see how the design and color flow changes the whole look. The Fat Quarter Shop assortment of fabrics you selected is beautiful.
I just love making new blocks and then putting them together in a quilt.
I love making blocks since I know that they will end up in a completed quilt that will be gifted to family and friends. I cherish the idea that they will be a part of my heritage to them. I like to think that they know that
they are wrapped in love when bundled up in a quilt that I made. Thank You so much for this Give-Away. I celebrated my birthday yesterday and either gift would be a welcomed addition to what was a wondefful
day.
So great! Lovely fabric and exciting book!
I love seeing the fabrics, pattern, and construction all come together.
I love the process of choosing fabrics and putting them together in each block. Quilting makes me happy
I love seeing how the fabrics I choose come together into a beautiful block.
The completion of them – when they go together and make such a fantastic result. That’s what I love about making quilt blocks.
I love seeing how a block changes completely with different fabrics, and how it changes again when put into a whole quilt.
Searching thru my stash to find just the right fabrics to make the block that I have chosen.
I love looking at the block just made and realizing that I actually achieved something that looks good!
This is my 3rd BOM with you. I enjoy learning new techniques and moving beyond my comfort zone. My mom is a very new quilter without a computer so I’m printing each month and sending it to her so she can learn new things too. (She’s in NH; I’m in OH).
I love challenging myself to use up my stash. I consider it a challenge because so far, I failed! ☺️
I love seeing how my fabric choices make the block unique!
I love playing with the fabric. Yoo hoo! I love color. I’m a colorful quilter.
Dmac5958ataoldotcom
My Mom is my quilting “sister” and we are doing the Sugar Block together. We love to see how the same block looks different with different colors and fabric choices. But mostly we just love sewing together and having fun. The sampler quilt at the end of the year will be a reminder of fond memories of our quilting this year!
I love to see how all the colors come together and also the challenge of making a new block without having to use my seam ripper.
I love to see how all the colors come together and also the challenge of making a new block without having to use my seam ripper.
I live in a small mobile home and have very limited space. I love making blocks because they are small enough to fit my space. I also love the fact that I can try a new technique on a small scale to see if it is a technique that I like without committing to a lot of fabric and time. They also make great pillows!
I love watching the fabrics come together to make beautiful designs. It is a challenge that I really enjoy.
I am mostly a garment and bag seamstress so being able to finish a block in one sewing session is very refreshing (especially when I am bogged down with a long project).
I love selecting the fabric colors and patterns and then watching my vision appear as I construct the block. Usually very satisfying 😉
I love that there are so many beautiful blocks, that you can combine to make all kinds of different looks
Creating with fabric which is so fun…what color/design to “pop” the block. Then, imagining the final product.
I made the Vise Versa quilt and it was given to my brother. It was one of the most fun quilts to create and I’d love the instructions in book form. Thanks for the giveaway.
January’s Sugar Block was my very first attempt and it worked beautifully, I am so happy!
When making new blocks I love picking the fabrics & playing with color, learning a new skill, and trying to get the measurements right.
I like choosing the fabrics & then piecing them.
I love picking the fabrics, selecting blocks that showcase the fabrics best and starting to see how all the blocks will come together. It is fun!
I love everything about making blocks: choosing the block, selecting the fabric, cutting the pieces ,organizing the pieces, and sewing it together. I even love trimming the block. What a wonderful way to live.
I think my favorite part is selecting the fabrics for the project. I get so excited about how it is going o turn out. You didn’t ask, but I think my second favorite is seeing my dream come true.
I always love seeing the transformation, and how the colors I choose always end up being more lovely together than I imagined. I’m always so surprised by the “magic!”
I love the idea of making 2 blocks at the same time!
When I make a block come together after using scraps, I am amazed on how great it looks. Making a quilt top using different kinds of fabrics and block designs is why I go into my sewing room and just have fun.
Love doing your block of the month. I feel like I have “homework” every month!
I love the zen of just sewing and making something practical.
I love that precise pieces make a beautiful block!
I’d love to win one of your prizes. Can’t wait for the second block. I love the first one.
I like the piecing of the block that produces a beautiful quilt!
I just love making quilt blocks, so making 2 at once isn’t a chore at all. thanks for the giveaway.
Its amazing – the many differences in star blocks. I’m always excited to see the variations.
I love everything about the process–choosing the fabrics, measuring and cutting the pieces, and putting everything together into a cohesive piece. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!
I love the anticipation of what the blocks will look like when joined with others and playing with the many combinations!
I love puzzles and picking fabric,, cutting it, and sewing it back together is like a puzzle for me. It is amazing how fabric placement can make such a difference with a blocks look even when using the same fabrics just in different locations.
I love combining beautiful fabrics!
Love trying new methods and new color combinations. Keeps everything new and fresh
Putting different fabrics together – the colors and patterns. Sometimes it’s a winner, sometimes not but it’s always fun. Learning new techniques is another favorite
I love making and giving quilts it is satisfying and challenging.
I love putting the pieces together and seeing how the fabrics play. The last moment, when you press and square up, is the best! :)
I just love how you have all these little pieces come together to make such a beautiful block then quilt. It really is amazing one you can create with tiny fabric bits!
I love trying different techniques and seeing how it all comes together!
Love making a new block to see just how it will look with fabrics I have chosen. Also love making sure everything lines up just right!
I feel like I am making something lovely with lots of friends around the world. I have also started a small BOM group here in Jakarta where last week we were “working through” our issues with the flying geese. Lots of giggles and finally some well aligned geese.
I love auditioning fabric for the blocks. Thanks for the great giveaway and for your inspiring blog!
When I make a new Quilt block, I’m not sure what I love most…the process .. or the finished Block itself! giggle… I enjoy seeing it come together…and then making a quilt or whatever project it becomes.
Thank you for chance to win your Give-a-way too :)
hi Amy , just want to say I enjoyed making the flying geese in the first block and picked some lovely fabric so it looks good. Thank you for the opportunity to do a block of the month with you and learn new techniques as we go.
I love making intricate blocks and watch how all the pieces go together to make something awesome. Then I press them well and square them up. Then I admire them. :)
Change a size, rotate a block, use a different color–the creativity is endless.
I guess I like a good puzzle. Having the block all.come together as should if kind of like doing a puzzle.
I love watching how a quilt block is created from pieces of fabric. Such joy in the accomplishment of a finished quilt. Thank you for the give-a-way!
What I like most about quilting is how relaxing it is, the fun I have picking out the fabric and thinking about the recipient as I’m doing so, the creative juices that seem to flow as I put the pieces together to make a block then two then seeing the big picture come together when I’m all done…..like a giant jigsaw puzzle. I also enjoy the delight on the faces of the one I’ve made it for when they get their first look at it….ah what joy fills my heart! Once I made a picture quilt for my friend and her daughter who had recently lost her baby to SIDS. We both cried when she opened it and since we live in different states, it’s like I gave her a BIG hug across the miles. Quilting to me is like miles and miles of smiles 😊😊😊😊😊😊
There is something so special about seeing a design , cutting little pieces and sewing them together that just makes it exicting
I love playing with fabric, colors and patterns. There are so may blocks out there I want to try almost all of them!
I love when all my seams line up and my points don’t get cut off!! That doesn’t happen often, but I’m getting better and better! :)
Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I love how it all comes together and the best is when I can gift it to someone!
I just found your site and joined the mailing list. Let me think, what do I like about quilting? I pretty much obey all rules. I come to a complete stop at the ez pass toll booth waiting for the green light. My adult children find this funny and annoying. But…when quilting, I find I can break some rules. Makes me feel alive.
I like trying new things but I tend to overthink things. Even the simplest blocks take me a long time but I am thrilled when it turns out nicely and fits together with the other blocks.
What quilter doesn’t love getting a new book to look through and imagine all the possibilities as the pictures give new ispiration and ideas! And FABRIC! what’s not to love about new fabric!? Thank you for the chance of receiving either of these,
I love to play around with colors, textures, and shapes. This is new for me because I’ve just recently gotten the “I can do it myself” bug. It’s such fun to put things together, rearrange them, and finally come up with something I kind of like. I’ve got a loooooong way to go and am really excited about trying to create my own things.
I do a lot of block-less quilting, but when I stop to do a block I slow down and think of how many women (and men) have made that block before me.
I love the picking out the fabric. Looks like a great book. Would love to win. Nancy P.
I love laying out all the finished quilt blocks and working out what order to put them in, whether to add sashing or a boarder. You know you’re only a hop, skip and a jump away from having that quilt top from having that quilt top all sewn up.
Gee. Excuse all my typos above! That should be “border”
and only one set of “having that quilt top”..
I like making something unique…and learning something new.
Shopping for fabric!
I love digging into my stash to make new combinations and seeing how they look in one or more blocks. I also like to be reminded of what’s in my stash–oh, I remember that one!
I love choosing random colors and then seeing the wonderful surprise that they always seem to ‘go together’ when made into a block.
I love the creativity of using different fabrics then what may be called for in a pattern.
I love picking the fabric and searching for the perfect pattern. Since I’m a newbie, I search fun easy patterns.
I enjoy the entire process from selecting the fabric till the finished block and or quilt.
I love watching the pieces come together to make the block. I really love when I get it right! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love how they come together and they can be so different depending on fabric choice. I also love the me time I get when working on them
Since takng your class back in 2012, with Craftsy, quilting has become my hobby. I have made your Secret Garden and Sugar Block 2013 quilts too. Many, many have followed. The only thing I really miss are the video instructions you gave. Your voice is so calm and reassuring. I hope someday you can do that in your Sugar Block Club. Until then, “Quilt On!”
What I like most about making a block is the satisfaction of seeing all those little pieces unite in one beautiful unit.
What I like most about making blocks is playing with different layouts when they are all completed.
The new site is gorgeous as well your column today. Your color choices are wonderful as usual.
I love the possibility of making 2 blocks that co ordinate but are different! There is something satisfying about making individual shapes come together into something larger and more complex! Fun!
Its so fun to be creative and sewing 😃
This new book looks great! I love seeing a pile of fabrics come together into an amazing block – it’s so rewarding to see something from what was basically nothing. Totally digging the opposite blocks that can be created. Thanks for the awesome give-aways.
Love the fabric and the book looks like wonderful reading as well as sewing.
Have a wonderful day! :-)
I love trying new blocks and new colour combinations
Love the book. I do enjoy making blocks.
It fun to find the right farbic to make the quilt that is you!
Hi there Amy,
Ooo, what a super-duper prize to chase away the January blues!!!
I like searching for quilt blocks in my many quilting books and magazines and online/Pinterest etc and once I’ve found just the right one, then I have fun, fun, fun doing fabric pulls from my stash and/or surfing my scrap boxes and ahem…bags…for something that will zinggg!
Thanks!
Quilty Huggs,
Jacqueline
My favorite thing about making quilt blocks is putting them all together and making a quilt to give to someone special. Besides my family and friends I like to make charity quits. I love to try new techniques because then I learn something new. Thanks so much for being a great source of inspiration to me and many others.
Trying new blocks allows me to experiment with fabric combinations and new techniques. I LOVE how my first block in the new Sugar Block Club turned out, and I’m anxiously awaiting block #2 for February.
Thank you for this opportunity to win a fabulous prize! Happy Sewing!
I love puzzles, and I think that’s why I like making quilt blocks. It’s so fun to see them come together, especially if I do them correctly!
I love the challenge of a new puzzle & I love fabric – putting the 2 loves together makes piecing quilts such a delight!
The possibilities are endless and you end up with something to be treasured.
I love quilting – it has brought me lots of good friends, provided insulation for the house (LOL), given me an opportunity to find my artistic side and I have enjoyed every minute of it…okay except for the ripping out parts!! Lovely giveaway! Thank you!
I love taking a pile of fabric and creating something new with it. Even if I follow somebody else’s pattern, what I make is unique. :)
i love making something big and new and interesting out of something small: essentially a scrap
I love making something from plain uncut fabric.
My favorite part is playing with color combinations and seeing how I can affect the design
I love seeing my vision come to “life”- from the sketch to actually putting it together.
I love the whole process. Picking the fabric, choosing a pattern, cutting, piecing, basting, quilting, etc.
I love going to my stash and planning the color and print combinations to be used.
I love doing blocks of the month. I am able to learn so much with each block. And in the end I have a beautiful quilt.
I love taking all of the different fabrics and “painting” a scene with a useful, decorative result. The different colors and placement of them create such unique designs.
Amy, is it possible to have a printer friendly version of the instructions for the blocks? It would help to have line drawings along with the measurements and instructions to follow. My computer is away from my sewing area. Thank you. Norma
Sewing the pieces together gives me the most satisfaction!
I think picking out the fabric would be the most fun for me but I do love seeing them together too!
I love learning new techniques since I still consider myself a beginning quilter. I enjoy all types of sewing.
I love seeing a block come together from all of the little pieces of material. Especially if it is the correct size. :-)
I’m a fairly new quilter without much of a “stash”, so I love a chance for a giveaway! I love learning new techniques to piece together a block; there are so many I’ve never even seen let alone sew!!
Thanks Amy!
I love going to my house ever growing stash to build a beautiful block and then quilt!
I love the design process of making a quilt block, figuring out colors and fabrics and then cutting and piecing together into a neat block design! Watching it come together piece by piece is so fun.
The creative mixing and matching of color combinations…then just the sewing its self
to relax . Sewing quilt blocks is my favorite therapy . Thank you for the great free monthly blocks, I love your changes and updates to blocks..so fun!!
I like trying something new, and using up some scraps.
I like the challenge of a new block and picking fabrics which is my weakness.
The thing I love the most is finding and picking out the perfect fabrics and colors for each block/quilt.
I love that there isnt a deadline because I am pretty busy all the time. I also love trying new blocks I’ve never considered sewing before.
I love Quilt blocks because they provide challenges. Blocks vary drastically by changing my color selection and by changing values and prints they can just pop. Always interesting.
there are so many things about the quilting process I enjoy, but after my daughter and granddaughter moved in with us it has become a ritual every morning for my 8 year old granddaughter to join me in my sewing room. Sometimes she’ll sit at a machine and work on a “quilt” for her doll, sometimes help me choose fabric for a new project and if I’m FMQ she enjoys watching. She even has her own sketch pad for “doodling” quilt pattern ideas!
I love the way quilting makes me feel connected to traditions that have been passed down for generations. Whether I’m piecing or sewing on a binding, I belong to the women who came before me and those that will be quilting after I’m long gone. It gives me identity.
I love the process of creating and the feel of great fabric.
I love piecing quilt blocks because I am always amazed that I can take a bunch of fabric, cut it into small pieces, then sew those pieces together into a beautiful piece of art.
What I like most about making a quilt block is the satisfaction I receive when I look at it and see I’ve done it right. Thanks for the opportunity to win your generous giveaway.
I can’t believe I haven’t signed up for your email list yet! I’ve been missing out!
I love the fabric selection part, and also the part where I get to step back and admire a finished block.
I also love that finishing a single block can give me a feeling of instant gratification – well, at least in comparison to finishing an entire quilt…
It’s always amazing to see my pile of stash come together to look like a Real Block! I love making quilts!
It’s cheaper than a shrink.
I love trying new sewing techniques!
I love making a variety of blocks, and then putting them together into a whole.
I love everything the most…which I guess equates to, the thing I love the most about making quilt blocks is how it makes me feel so wonderful down to my core.
Making a quilt block is satisfying and rewarding. It’s like putting a puzzle together. I love the fabric selection phase.
The fabrics, color and design coming together. I love all of it. It’s so relaxing and at the same time invigorating.
I love the orderliness of it! And what appears from seemingly unrelated pieces.
I love the entire process from picking the fabric to the final product. Also, knowing that I MADE THAT!!! It’s so fun!
I love making quilt blocks because as a newbie it challenges me, makes me extremely happy to create and when giving quilts as gifts it makes it much more personal.
thanks
Delana
One block…leads to another…which leads to another…pretty soon you have enough to make a top! Ahhhh! The joys of creating something useful!
I love all of the different possibilities for making blocks. And if I’m only making one block I cam make a complicated design or experiment with a new technique, without having the commitment of making 20 all the same.
I love to piece the quilts and see them grow! It’s exciting!
I love the feeling of accomplishment! I love seeing all the preliminary and prep work coming together.
I like the cutting out part best! Odd, but true. All the steps are rewarding and seeing the final results bring the cutting part to its destination.
I love taking all of the cut pieces, following the directions, and seeing the final result.
I just LOVE the whole process! Such relaxation and creativity that goes into putting it together but the satisfaction of completing a quilt is just as satisfying. Great for your health!! Thank you for the chance to win anything related to our beautiful craft!
It is so relaxing to find the right fabrics.. Then the right block/ pattern cutting sewing and enjoying the finished product.. Most of all i like the comments of family and friends.. The whole process they do not have a clue what you are doing and they will tell you you are crazy to first cut up the fabric and then sew it back together. But when they see the finished product they understand why.
My passion is playing with my stash. I’m always surprised by how the colors play together.
I love watching how the yards of fabric become something amazing; where all the points line up, how the quilt grows in size with every block made, and the look on people’s faces when they receive the quilt.
Making quilt blocks takes me back to my roots. My grandmother and great grandmother (born in 1868) were quilters. I now have some of their quilts made with fabric they had from leftover clothing scraps. I am amazed how they did this without the tools that we have access to. I am hoping to pass down this legacy to my own grandchildren.
I just love it when all the sections go together perfectly! It’s such a good feeling . I know I did something very right!
I love how all those little pieces if fabric that don’t look like much on their own all come together to make something beautiful. I love the satisfaction of finishing a block and seeing that result.
My favourite thing about making quilt blocks is the feeling of completion, I have two littles at home and sometimes I feel like there is no me left for… me, at the end of the day. I may not get the quilt done until next year, but hey, this Sunday afternoon I can definitly make one block!
Quilt on Amy :)
I love making quilt blocks for the sense of accomplishment it gives me in this crazy world we live in. Your instructions are so easy to follow. Love it.! Would love to win . Judy
I love the relaxation I get from making a quilt block … and of course the excitement of seeing the finished block :)
what a delightful giveaway. This would be a nice addition to my collection. Thank you. You really have a lovely site.
When making blocks, I love how the different colors and values play so nicely together. I always seem to hesitating jumping in, and then realize it’;s a cake walk and then can’t stop!
I love the variety that’s out there for me to try. Thanks for the chance.
I love how the colors change the look of a quilt.
I love the fact that I’m just starting to quilt and I have so much fun to look forward to!
Love learning a new block. Just trying out paper piecing for the first time. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love perfectly matching points! I don’t always end up with them, but when I do, it’s incredibly satisfying.
I love the sense of accomplishment when I finish a quilt top and what I learned from my mistakes in the process. Love your blog!
I love pairing fabrics!
I love watching the patterns come together.
I like picking deciding on the fabric placement in a block and love when multiple blocks come together and create a larger pattern or design than what is created in each block individually!
There’s something about having a finished item so quickly. Each block, no matter how simple, is beautiful by itself.
I love sewing the pieces together once I’ve made the decisions about color and placement – it’s such a thrill to watch that stack of finished blocks stack up!
I love the color play in picking different fabrics for the block components. thanks for the giveaway.
I love seeing pieces come together to make something whole and beautiful.
I love fabrics!! Haha! Seriously though, my favorite part is watching the blocks line up perfectly. I’m OCD about all the seams matching. Probably why it takes me twice as long. Dang grandma for making me constantly rip things out. Lol!!
I am new at quilting, so I like to see my blocks come out the way they are supposed to. It is a nice challenge
to finish a block and then a quilt and it actually looks good!
I love making quilt blocks because it is so exciting to see how different fabric colors and patterns make each quilt block look. You never know just how it is going to look until you have the block complete and that is very exciting to me!
I love creating quilt blocks as it’s my way of relaxing in the evening after my kids have gone to sleep. Plus I love seeing my kids wrapped up in quilts that I made :)
I love how the blocks change just by changing the fabrics, an entire quilt can be one pattern and look so different only because the pieces are different fabrics. Also that one block alone looks nice, but when several are put together as a quilt, other patterns emerge and the look is entirely different and awesome!
I love piecing the blocks together. It makes me especially happy when my points come together!
I love the sense of satisfaction at having created something! And it’s even better when they all come together into a quilt!
I love it when I have spent all the time and effort to be accurate and I’m rewarded by perfect points and seams coming together!
I love the thrill of creating something pretty! And also love the people I meet in the quilting world!
Quilting is like a puzzle, love when it comes out just right.
I like the fact that if you are busy, a single block is not an overwhelming task.
I find making a quilting block an experience that helps to fill my creativity soul. I love color and creating things.
I think it is seeing the creative beauty when a block comes together. Quilting is such fun!
I love the whole process!! Especially the idea that my time is translating into a meaningful gift that will last a lifetime. Thank you for sharing yourself and your family with all of us. It’s all so beautiful!
I can see improvements with each block I make. Great satisfaction in learning something new.
What I love most is learning new techniques.
i hope i signed up , i put my email in. i love binding because it’s nearly finished
