Sweet September

September 2, 2013 17 Comments

We’re on a real sugar high over here in Dock land!

Celebrated a few birthdays last night at the best kind of crazy family party.  Cake?  Check.  Pinata?  Check.  Late summer backyard shenanigans?  Check.

Boys 1st Cake

I’ve got some sweet new patterns out as well!  First, a baby quilt called “Charmed” that’s just right for 2 charm packs.  There are kits available over at Craftsy right now, but I’ll also be offering this pattern by itself in my own shop soon.

Craftsy also released my fun little reversible skirt pattern not too long ago, and was hoping to post a link to these kits as well, but they sold out before I even got a chance to!  Eek!  No worries- if you’re interested in this pattern, I’ll be offering it in my shop at some point in the future as well, so stay tuned.

The size and length are totally customizable, so we went with the long-ish swishy length that my big girl requested. :)  She wore it to kindergarten this week (with a pink tie-dyed t-shirt, no less), and the word on the street is it was an eye catcher!

And I can’t forget our monthly sweet- of the Sugar Block variety!  This month we’re stitching up a fun take on the classic granny square type block that has grown so popular in the modern quilt community.  I was playing around with having some of the side-by-side squares in the same color (as usually I would do this block in color “layers” like a real crocheted granny square)…the first thing Mr. Dock said was “Looks like a propeller.”  Hmm.  I suppose it does.  Airplanes + a dash of the the classiest classic of all time, Frank Sinatra, and I think we’ve got a block- “Come Fly With Me.”

And of course a Sugar Block isn’t a Sugar Block without a sweet treat by it’s side.  Cookies made from devils food cake mix?  Yes please!

Ahhh!  And it’s only the 1st!  This month is off to a great start.  Wishing you a sweet one as well, my friends.

XO

A year has gone by so fast! I remember your posts from the hospital where you had set up your sewing machine to pass the time productively. Happy Birthday to the boys!

Like everyone else, I’m surprised the one year mark has rolled around already! Happy first birthday to the wee Dockmen! Nora rocks the skirt totally. So you made it! And you’ve accomplished so much this past year. I don’t think you broke your stride at all. WAY impressive. Happy end of summer and into the Fall!

Love the cake. As an aside, I am having difficulty logging onto the SugarBlock of the Month and didn’t receive the email for September’s block. Help!

Hi Patricia! Sorry to hear you are having trouble! I checked your account and it shows that the email was successfully delivered to your address on Sunday morning, but hasn’t been opened yet. Did you try running a search for anything from stitcherydickorydock@hotmail.com? Let me know if this yields anything. Regarding the trouble logging in, did you try switching browsers? This seems to solve the problem for most people. If you don’t have Google Chrome, download it and give that a try- seems to be the best browser across the board. Pop me an email and we’ll get to the bottom of it :) Amy
